Hi all,
My 7m old, Griffin, and I finally contacted and met with a SAR team. He was evaluated as having good potential, but due to a lot of young dogs needing to pass certification, they dont want to offer us training membership. I will train on my own in the direction they told me to and play victim for them. So far Griffin is doing very well with training, but I cant get him to bark. He has barked 2-3 times since I have had him (at 4m) and that was after treeing one of my cats. Now, I have considered tossing the cat up the tree <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />, but have been working hard to convince him not to chase the cats.
I have tied him and teased him with food and toys--he seems to think that since I dont give him the food/toy that he is behaving badly and settles and sits. He really wants to please me, so I am worried about his confidence while I frustrate him enough to bark. If I tease when he is loose, I get bit! He is from schutzhund lines and breeder says he is high drive. My last guy, Roland, was extreme in his drive, pretty darn hard, and independent. I am not used to a softer dog who can turn off and wants to please me. I dont want to mess him up!!!
Ideas on teaching him to bark would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks,
Jennifer and Griffin
