His name is "Jack" and he's 4 or 5 months old - can't remember exactly. These are just some pictures I took today after I got him home. Ain't he purdy?!
He's definately going to be a handful, but he did really well in the house today. Right now he's outside in the kennel howling, but maybe he'll stop in a little while. I don't think the neighbors will mind, considering their dogs bark all night long and every time they see a person during the day.

Yep, this is hopefully my PPD, but I'd like to get a SchH title or two on him as well, and *maybe* do some competing in PSA or ASR if I can.
Dennis, so right! He's tried to chew on the laptop wire a few times, but he's been pretty good so far considering he's not really been kept in a house before. Right now he's chewing on a pork skin roll. He is beginning to understand what 'no' and 'off' mean, because whenever he puts his paws up on the couch or jumps all the way up there I tell him off, encourage him off, and then praise him. He actually stops and thinks when he comes up to the edge of the couch, and sometimes lifts up a foot and then seems to remember and puts it back down again. He's gonna be a quick learner! I'm going to try to work on 'sit' some today with treats, so I can start making him 'earn' his meals and everything. He obviously has never worn a collar and leash because ever since I put his collar on yesterday he's been scratching at it - good thing it's 100% guaranteed - and if the leash pulls against him, he totally freaks out. I've been trying not to let it get tight, and if it does and he starts to freak out, I take a step towards him to slack it up again and encourage him to come on, instead of letting him fight, which seems to be working. He also doesn't know his name, so we can change it if we want - I'm not sure I like the name Jack; I'm more privvy to 2-syllable names. No particular reason why.
He is out of Czech lines, and his granddaddy (I think) is the dog that Wayne placed 6th with in the Sieger (Condor is his name). His daddy is Butan, Wayne's current competition dog. I'll know more when I get his pedigree. Casey Crawford has a half-brother - same father. Butan seems to be producing good pups, so we'll see how this wild man turns out! You should hear him bark!!

Kristen,
You stated that this new guy will be your PPD, So if that is his primary duty, (and I know,LOL, but this isn't meant to be a plug although it I know it is) why not come right out and do ASR with him. Something geared more towards his primary duties. That way, you can have fun with him, and still be productive in heading on the road to his end job. Now if someone said they wanted to compete with him as their primary reason, then hey whatever floats your boat you know, but in this case, given his job title, I'd go with ASR as an outlet to have fun with him in the process, it'll keep the apple next to the tree JMO of course

Chris, I agree with everything you said, and would LOVE to do exactly what you suggested; but there just aren't any trainers around here that train for ASR, and driving 5 or more hours one way once a week (or even every other week) just for training is a no-can-do right now, especially with gas prices being so high. I honestly don't feel that I have any other choice but to start him in Schutzhund. Hey, if you would consider moving a little further west in NC I might consider it!
