I just have a quick question about the dog’s eye contact in ED's Video. Is the dog supposed to look into my eyes or just at my face? While working the beginning foundation of establishing the eye contact... should I be looking into her eyes and praising her when she looks at me.
I only ask because I have read elsewhere that you should never look a dog right in the eyes?
“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams”
Don't worry about messing up, that will happen no matter how careful you are. My dog likes to try to split the difference between me and the decoy.
My dog has low food drive but at least she is now can look at me in sitting position while I said "ready", and for the 1st few steps, she still can look at me but because her food drive is low, she can't be focused. So, I am thinking to use "force" (prong collar) but it doesn't seem to work well. any advise how can I deal with in ?
I would start skipping meals. When you don't know when the next meal is going to show up, trust me, that food drive will show up. Using a prong to correct at this stage is a bit silly. Let her go a couple of days with only getting the treats she gets from you when you train. If it doesn't seem to be working....wait longer.
Oh yeah, and don't start giving huge chunks when you stop feeding her for treats like all the other little cheaters in my classes
Thanks for the valuable input. I have been trying this for around 1.5 mth, not sure if it is considered long or short ?
In fact, I train my dog before meal time. Perhaps I should really skip the meal ...
I skipped the coming trial because I am not satisfied with her heel work
