I'm not quite sure how to word this question, but will do my best.
I have a breed that is not often seen in Schutzhund trials in the US, yet which competes often in Europe (as well as French Ring, Belgian Ring and Monioring). We also do not have an FCI-based working club in the US.
I notice that one can earn VPG or IPO titles at DVG trials, but my question is this: if we do not have a US-based FCI club, can one only get the VPG designation versus IPO?
I'm new to all this and have imported a bitch from France, so she is FCI registered as well as now AKC registered.
The second part of the question is that if she cannot earn an IPO title here in the US, would the VPG be recognized in Europe, or would she need to requalify overseas?
If someone can point me in the right direction to get myself educated on this stuff, I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks!

Tracy, you can get both VPG & IPO titles in the US. If you trial through any of the big 3 organizations in the US and get either title under an FCI recognized judge, then the title is good anywhere.

SV isn't in the USA, you know that!
I was referring to USCA, DVG, and WDA.
Although 2 of them can't seem to get along.

I know, I know...
It was just a chance to rip on the equivalent of the girls softball team of SchH, otherwise known as the WDA.

Down here, some would take that as a compliment! The girls softball team at the local University is better than a lot of college baseball teams and has proven it!!!

Mike,
Thanks for your help! I was under the impression that one needed to belong to a parent club (FCI affiliate US clubs) to receive the IPO title. Since we don't have the split in Briards, we only have the AKC parent club.
My goal is to bring her back to the homeland one day, so it helps to know that what we may accomplish here will not be for naught.

AKC is the only FCI recognized registry in the USA, they are not a breed club much less a parent breed club. If you want to be "safe" about FCI recognition, I'd go with DVG...and you'd be able to compete at higher levels as well as represent the USA in Germany if your dogs do well enough.
At the very least, I'd make sure that the judges you trial under are FCI judges to be on the safe side. SV judges are FCI recognized as are most DVG America judges (I believe, but don't quote me on that), however I'm not sure about USCA & WDA only judges.

I am smarter than my dog, your just not. |
