Geez its been ages since I was here!
Nicka is 6 months old now.. heres a pic of her at 4 mos and 5 mos. You dont really know how long the fur will be, or what color until they are about 8 months. They almost all look identical as puppies.. Shes lost the brown and is all black face now, and that tan at her chin is being replaced with black too. Mostly a dark gray now..
Shes about 12 or 13 kg now.

This is 4 months, right after a bath (they are ALL fur.. honestly!)

Yes, it's called Chodsky Pes, as indicated in the subject line. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> It's also known as the Bohemian Shepherd
Here are some links for more info on the breed:
http://www.natur.cuni.cz/~polejit/chp_eng.htm
http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/bohemianshepherd.htm (does the pic look familiar on this page?!)
http://www.dog-pictures.co.uk/dog-breeds/bohemian-shepherd.shtml
From a message board: "Chodsky Pes. (Hod-skee Pess) German speaking people call it Chodenhund. The Chodove were the people who bred these dogs in the Czech Republic back in the 1300s so thats where the name comes from. The English name is Bohemian Shepherd.
This dog is most likely the most recent ancester of todays German Shepherd, which explains why purebred Germans sometimes show up with this fur."

Yes, it's the national breed of the Czech Republic and is recognized by some Eastern European associations. But it's not universally recognized yet, because the state breeding program was only reinstituted in the 80's.
The Czechs first started breeding this dog in the 1500's. It's a famous dog, named for the town it comes from. There are paintings of it that are centuries old and its mentioned in many old novels.
This dog looks similar to the German Shepherd but to see it in person its totally its own dog. People always know what she is when they see here. The breed is becoming very popular in Germany and Switzerland and France too, and their kennel clubs are close to approving the breed for show in those countries.
I went to the university (founded in the 1300's - oldest one in Europe, so you can imagine the records they have!) with a state breeding official and found evidence of the Germans taking stock from here in the late 1800s, when the GSD was first being bred. And then when I was in Dresden I did the same thing and the woman agreed the Chodsky was one of the main influences on the GSD.
But the temperment is different. GSD's are far more aloof. Chodskys are uber friendly and hyper, unless their owner is threatened. And I can vouch for the fearlessness - she sounds like a 200lb male GSD when she thinks someone is attacking me..
(thats a long story, but some random drunk thought it would be funny to run up behind us and yell stupid things very loudly, waving his arms.. I dont think he'll ever do that again... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
They arent called a Czech Shepherd - I just tossed that in to let people know where the dog is from. Its a Shepherd, clearly - and its Czech.. so.. well, ya know.. A closer translation of Chodsky Pes would actually be 'Dog from Chodsko'.. but that sounds silly.. hence, Bohemian Shepherd, since there are other Bohemian breeds..
Shes got most of her fur, but it will still get longer. Her father has a beautiful coat, and was Czech Champion.. Im hoping her coat will look like his.. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Ahoj! Sorry that's as far as my written Czech goes, we left Czechoslovakia in 1968, I was five. I speak fluent Czech and can read for the most part but writing is another ball game. I was born in Slany, my grandparents lived in Smetcno
near Prague.

I think Ive been to Slany. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />
The nice thing about Czech is how phonetic it is. E always sounds the same. C always sounds the same, etc. Unlike English, where you have to memorize alot of words.
But the grammar.. sorry.. I just plain suck at that. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
So if you were 5 when you left.. I guess you basically are a native English speaker than? Whoops..! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
