Newbe question.
I was wondering what some things are that could cause excess tooth wear especially on the canines.
from my research I have figured out that biting kennels, and playing with tennis balls can cause this.
I was wondering if jute can cause the teeth to wear down more in a dog's mouth that is bite trained than a dog that isn't bite trained/or has had no exposure to jute etc.?
Another way to word my question would be, If you have two older dogs the same age, one bite trained and one not, is the one that is bite trained going to show more wear in it's mouth?
lord, please help me be the person my dog thinks I am
Willy,
This will sound weird, but there is supposedly a genetic component for some dogs to have enamel that rapid erodes.
If those dogs are the type to chew rocks or their kennels, you end up with "Ol' Gummy" in their later years.
Will is correct- some dogs teeth are genetically not as strong as other. Some dogs that are trained with tennis balls and fir hose toys will have wear teeth (DO N OT USE THEM). Jute does not hurt teeth.
I've actually heard that there were lines of dogs with that enamel defect.
Man, I'd avoid those like a bad habit.. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
I have a Danu/Ron female. Leerburg female. She has huge teeth. She has worn gooves in her teeth from pulling on the kennel links. She is not in the kennel much. But she does not like being in there. She is very determined, hard female. Are we sure it's genetic or could drive also play a part? She is the type of dog, if you hold a ball under your foot, she will try and dig it out. ED, she came from you, any thoughts?
Shari
Shari, I had a Border terrier that wore his teeth on the chainlink. That's the dogs drive that does that. The genetics can cause the weak enamel, but even the best teeth are going to wear if the dog is constantly fence chewing.
Thanks to all who answered!!
I tAke it is the fuz on thE tennis balls that does it? Whay is the deal with the ?fire hose? Are there any other things like that I should keep him away from?
Thanks again!!!
