I was petting my puppy today and around her neck, she has a small patch of hair missing. The area is a little smaller than the size of a dime. It appears to be alittle swollen and a little bit pinker than the surrounding skin. There is not a bump or any open areas. There is a little yellowish dried crusty stuff on the area. Almost like a little puss that dried up. I cleaned it with peroxide and put antibodic lotion on it.
What could it be? What would cause her to lose a little patch of hair? A bug bite?
I once had a cat get ringworn and the symptoms are similar to what you described. From my understanding people and dogs can get it as well. Your vet could tell if it’s ringworm.
“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams”
If you take your pup to the vet they can tell by using a UV light. If it is ringworm, they will give you a topical and some pills. Also, you can use Lotramine (atheletes foot cream) as it is for ringworm and can be safely used on dogs. Thats what my vet had me do when one of my boys came down with ringworm.
K...just went through ringworm with a freind (human)...not sure how she got it. Any black light will work to see if it is ringworm HOWEVER, only one type of ringworm shows up this way.
As well....I went and did some research on the internet and found that nail polish put on the site for 2 days will totally clear it up. Was hard to believe but my freind thought it was worth trying (Dr. prescribed cream)...she used the nail polish. Sure enough..it totally cleared it up!
On one article I read a person used the nail polish on her dog and cat (cut away hair around the area) and then applied it...and it worked for them.
A lot cheaper and likely way more healthy an option compared to internal drugs.
One thing that is important to mention is that ringworm (actually a fungus and not a worm) is extremely contagious. It can be transmitted very easily to humans in contact with affected animals. With children, you often see it on the face, as they tend to snuggle/nuzzle affected animals.
Most antifungals will make quick work of ringworm, as will bleach or dandruff shampoo (any of the 'blue' ones...Selsin Blue, Head and Shoulders, etc)
