I;ve been involved in Schutzhund for a short time, and unfortunately being up in Canada, outside training time is cut down where I live, due to the snow which has started to fall already. Our tracking season can be extremely short sometimes. Does anyone have any ideas, or is it even possible at all, to do any type of tracking, or tracking excercises indoors. I'm just looking at possibilities to keep the dogs tracking even on occasion during the winter months.
How old of a dog are we talking? Depending on what level he is at You can start working on the articles in the house. Strat getting him used to downing on them. I have gone as far as tracking in a parking lot after it's been plowed. Not the best of conditions but an option.

Some days you're the dog, and some days you're the hydrant.
2 dogs involved. My famale is 5 yrs, but only been in Schutzhund about 2 years with me. The male, just 2 years, has been with me in Schutzhund since we welcomed him home. Never thought about the parking lot idea, GREAT!!!!
I don't know anything about Tracking, but when it was raining heavyily here in Southern California I took my dog to underground parking garages for training and walking. You can usually find an empty section in some of the enormous parking structures.
Now is a good time to start hard surface tracking. Start in a parking lot as suggested, or inside large buildings or stadiums if accessable. This will help alot when you get back to soft terrain.
