i am getting my next boxer pup hopefully in febuary i will be training him and starting competetions while my hubby and i live in germany, i would like to also try to compete in schutzhund sport when we move back to america in a few years.
the boxer breeder i am buying my puppy from has told me that boxers with tails dont place as high as boxers with out tails in america. how much truth is there to this?
she is in partnership with a belgium kennel and they are allowed to dock tails in that country and i could have gotton a puppy from there.
i spoke to the master trainer at our dog club to help me make a decission, and he said because of the no docking rule in germany i could train my docked boxer at the club but i would never be allowed to compete with a boxer that was docked on any club grounds, so because my my husband and i have 2 to 3 more years left stationed in germany and i would like to try to make at least our sch 1 with him, i have choosen to buy a boxer with a tail...
Suzi,
In SchH the apperance of the dog shouldn't make one bit of difference to the judge. Unless you plan on showing in AKC conformation or something once you get back to the States, it'll be just fine.
And Al....bad dog!! We need more people showing different breeds in SchH, always seeing Mal's and GSD's get's boring.
Or attack Weasel's, like you and Betty own.... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

i did think to get another gsd, but i really love the working boxer, and the boxer fits my personality more....
i had the chance to go with the master trainer from our club and a few other members to the bayrischer meistershaft, there was 1 gsd husky mixed breed in the competetion, but will is correct the rest were mali and gsd (mostly mali)......
and to be honest i think the master trainer was hoping that i would pick a mali pup as my next breed (he breeds them)... the club president breeds giant and mini schnauzers (he was pushing me to pick a giant schnauzer) ...and the judge that trains at our club breeds rottie's and mali's...
on the a.k.c competetions.. i e mailed with a boxer club in the states and they were not very receptive of the idea of a working boxer and would not answer my e mail back....
anyway i expect the only area i will have any trouble with my pup is the tracking part... the other club member that has a boxer is having big trouble getting his boxer to stay focused enough to track... and thanks will for the encouragment on furture competitions with my boxer...
and also.... i noticed on our competetion cards that here in germany after the BH you can then take part in a schutzhund A which is schH 1 with no tracking..... is that offered in the states as well?

thats what i thought that most of the schH competetions here and in the states were the same, the only difference is that we MUST take a written test of 25 random questions out of 100 on dog ownership before competeting....
Actually there are folks here in the US with undocked boxers and rotties competing in schutzhund. Doesn't matter. In the showring I don't know. There are a few working boxer breeders here in Wisconsin http://members.aol.com/schutzboxr/index.html
and http://www.boxnen.com/main.shtml
Maybe you could email them for an answer to your questions.
