A mate of mine told me that his build is very well and that I can enter him into competitions - still busy with his traing and very abedient I must say.
Oops obedient - I am new to this forum as well - From South Africa - he comes from a champion line that's all I know - likes to bite and play thug games. Listens when he must sit. still workin on the down motion and stay. But fun dog to have. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

First does he have papers? if so then look at his past relitives and try to put their name in a search engine like askjeeves or something and see what comes up. however, i have made the same mistake you MIGHT have made and just went with the name. not sure how long you have been working with gsd but there is a lot to know. just cause your pup likes to play tug now doesn't mean he will make a good sport or pp dog. you really need to look at his parents and grandparents and see what they were like. however until you find out what the parents were like keep playing tug and you never know, even if the parents were junk american bred pet dogs you might have a nice dog. the chances of that though are very slim. like i said if you really want to know about your dog, look up its ancestors and see what you find. also if it is show line then start training for that. its really hard to know what your dog is with out looking at papers or anything. i hope this helps ya. good luck
Thanks for your reply - apparently the breeder said that i cannot register my GSD "I am new to this" because his mom is a show dog and will be disqualified if they found out that she had a litter - his father and grandfather was show dogs as well and champions, also police dogs.
Is it true that you cannot register your dog if his parenst is show dogs?
I will have to find out by her again cause I would really like to register him.
Let me add a correction to my statement as you're in RSA and my reply would be correct for the AKC.
I'd check with the registering body for whatever country you reside in - they should be able to answer a question like that and you can compare their answer to the breeder's answer. Which I suspect will be different...
1. i am by far not an expert on different types of shows, but if i were you i would throw my bs flag real quick. i mean i could be wrong but in show they are looking at a dog to determine if it is a "perfect specimen" of that breed. now the breeder is telling you that her dog is so great and wonderful but if she has pups then she is no longer able to show. from what i have seen if the dog is really that great they encourge you to breed so that there will be more "perfect dogs" out there. i just don't buy into it. i hope im wrong but it just don't make since.
2. if her parents were PSD and were out on the streets then how in the world did the great show dog come outta that breeding? like i said i am no expert but i just don't think it is possible. if i were you i would do like Will said and call and find out the real rules in that show. also try to find out where her grandparents were working at(which PD) and ask about them. just get on the horn and start calling everyone who might know the least little thing and i am willing to bet you will come up with some interesting things.
