Hi All, my pup is 8mo. old and his drives are good, his favorite thing to bite by far, is a 3 foot piece of 1 inch PVC pipe, i mean, as soon as he sees it he goes crazy, once he's latched on to it, you could lift him off the ground for as long as you could hold him up, a deep calm grip. I wanted something a little easier on his teeth so i ordered the big tug from leerburg, he likes it, but not like the PVC, my problem is he targets high up on the tug and he got my hand good today, what can i do to get him to bite the middle of the tug? I put the rope on it and he goes nuts for it, but not like if i'm holding it, he's a smart dog, and it seems like he's figured out what moves the prey, or am i frustrating him to much, maybe i should let him win a little sooner? He only does this with the tug, i'd appreciate any solutions, i'm gonna end up with a bloody stump, lol, thanks in advance, AL
My mal pup does the same thing. I can move it faster , so isnt a problem. Dogs figure out that the part closes to your hand is moving slower and also when they do bite it is easier to hold on, less interia to pull off the bite. Can you first frustrate them then back peddle holding the tug on both ends so the bite is targeted in the middle ? I have switched over to the rubber ball on the string since the bite can only happen correctly or it slips out. I can apply constant pressure for 3 seconds, then relax , then try and jerk it back out of her mouth; then bring her into my arms, pet her back nice and calmly.
This is just what I do; my pups grip aint all that great
