I live in Wyoming, and Malik is 9 mo. old. This morning we had -38 (yikes!) and I wonder if it's ok for him to be out. He is right now, goes in the sunny side of the house and seems fine. He also has a dog door to get in the garage but is mostly with me inside. I took him on walks yesterday, my face froze but he seemed fine, yet I wonder about his ears, and maybe his pads. I've read the discussion on cold temps, but didn't help me with my specific case. Any comments?
Thanks.

No, the dog is inside most of the time with me, but I let him out on his own (he has an e-fence) for whatever times he likes and when I hear him go in the garage I bring him in, and he's inside with us at night too. Then I take him on walks too. So it's probably all right for him.
If you guys are outside and you can take it, I'm sure he can take it as well. Dogs are cold weather animals, they make really good use of their energy to make heat and retain heat.
Yes, I wish I could take it too, but this has been so hard! I just come back from a walk, Malik loved it, and I wore so much stuff, I could hardly move <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> Now he's back outside with a bone, all happy...
I wondered, though, you mention Malumutes and huskies, but they are one breed of dogs made for the cold. I think German Shepherds might not be quite as tough, but then, I don't know.
Thanks for the posts!

My ? also. I have been taking my dog to work with me and leaving him in the truck. I work 12 hours and get him out every few hours to run and go potty. this week it got cold down into the twenties. I know that is not cold for alot but we live in Texas. I feel he was fine but everyone kept telling me he was cold going to freeze ETC. He is in the cab with several layers of blankets and I put cardboard around his crate. Shouldn't he be fine? He seems to love colder weather as I thought he would.
i wouldn't worry about temps in the 20s outside. the inside of the cab of your truck won't be that cold. of course i am assuming your dog has an undercoat to protect him. mine doesn't, and i have to give him more protection than i have to some of my former dogs.
