I belong to a coop in the Austin,TX area. You can join by going to the website. http://www.arfcoop.org the prices are good and since they only order organic and human grade you can buy your meat too.
I know now that if you go to any nearby farm that butchers their own cows that they have what they call saw dust. What saw dust is is when they cut the cow up with a saw they put down a big tarp or pan to catch the bits of beef it piles up just like ground beef. same consistencey and the fat content is like your 70/30 ground beef. The butchering farm that I go to sells it for 25 cents a pound. I'm sure all butchering places would have it, may be worth checking it out in your own area.
Ok guys, I don't see locations for raw food suppliers for central Florida.
Also I see where a lot of folks are buying chicken from Sam's and other places at a very cheap price but what about the issue of hormone verus hormone free food for our dogs? I wondering what peoples thoughts are on that.
And lastly, I switched my GSD to Raw food about a month ago and he is doing so well. He is calmer, he does not lick his paws like he use too and so far his one ear, that got full of crud all the time, is clear and clean. Best thing I ever did for my dog.
Thanks to everyone at Leerburg!!!!!

Hormones aren't used in the factory farming of poultry. (Not that there aren't lots of other abominations going on), but not hormones. I do believe hormones are involved in factory-farmed beef and pork, however.
Some people choose to buy organic/local/free-range/etc. meat for their pets--you would buy that the same place you buy that meat for yourself.
I don't. I'm satisfied with the quality of non-organic, regular "grocery store" meat for my dogs. As you've already found, it is so far superior to what's put into kibble that I don't think the additional expense of organic meat is justifiable for dog food. But that's just me.
