GO PHAEDRA!
I think it's really unwise for anyone to get the idea that a pyometra can be toyed with. This percent, that percent, they die if you fart around.

Thank you both.
This clarity was needed. I really think it wasn't getting across just how serious the condition is and that indeed, "they die if you fart around."
This was what the vet manuals were clear about, the vet practice overview I linked to, and even the percents. Colloidal silver and some antibiotics were not the answer. I'm not a health professional, and I was hoping that you guys who are would lay it on the line. What needed to be done was done, and the dog survived.

They certainly do. That's why this choice was the best and only one. For anyone that's maybe seen a c-section on a dog, you know how thin the tissue is between the pups and the world - that's the same case with those "puss puppies". Would you be willing to chance that it doesn't rupture? And what about all that puss... not so easy for the body to rid itself of literally 6 puppies worth.
I feel it's necessary to be graphic, because people don't realize just how much puss actually builds up, and how serious the infection is.

I was typing at the same time. Yes, it is hard to realize without actually seeing, how serious it is. As an owner, you know the dog is sick, but have no concept of what is actually causing it. this is a VERY GRAPHIC PHOTO of a dog's infected uterus during surgery. You can see the surgeon's hands for comparison.

LOOK AT THAT BLOOD SUPPLY! Gangrene of a limb is less life threatening, because the body can "draw a line" of demarcation, wall off the infection sometimes. This is inside, can't be separated, except by the surgeon. Great picture

I have been following this thread all along. This picture of pyometra is almost unbelievable! Thank you Phaedra for posting it.
What a relief that Drina had the surgery and is now home recuperating!
Best wishes for her speedy recovery!

Thanks for the wishes and support. Drina is eating nicely (doctor suggested this Ceasar food, and that is what she is eating), she ate two packages this morning. We gave her insulin shot later. Doctor said she may not need insulin long term, this could be only due to blood poisoning. She walks around a little bit, but spends most of the day resting. She managed to start an argument with Koko once, I had to separate them
She is still very skinny, her skin is just hanging on her body, but her tail is back up, curled and happy.
I knew that she had had the strength to go through the surgery, and if it had been caught earlier, I would have definitely gone with the non-surgical therapy. I know most of you disagree, but I feel strongly about this. Of course, this was a matter of life and death, too late (maybe) to do anything else.
I will take a picture of her and post it so that you can see how she looks now.

Tail up is BIG!!!
I know my Pugs ... I know tail curled up versus tail hanging down is a huge indicator.
No comment on the food if you mean Little Caesar .... she needs to eat, she needs some weight, and wet food is better. You can switch to a far better one when her appetite has returned in full force.

Well, just three days before the surgery, Drina crushed (as she usually does) a chicken thigh bone and ate it in 5 min. She did deteriorate in the following days, but she still had strength. They like to change food, nothing is good if it comes every day. I feed them mostly raw chicken and beef, but my wife forces some cooked meet also, and they appreciate the change. I think that the healthiest part is that all three of them eat bones every day. Koko sometimes eats 2-3 bones in 10-15 min. Of course, those are raw. My wife also buys those coloured t-bone steaks or whatever they are called - I don't like them, I don't like any dog food I have seen so far.
