There are definitely known cases of resistant mites - this we already know. I'll post a few links which Connie had sent me a month or so ago.
Now I'm wondering if a dog can have mites but not develop the "traditional" bare spots on face, ears, etc... Falcon's ears are tattered on the edges but he has developed no bare areas anywhere on his body.
I was able to treat his ears pretty well via a wash cloth drenched in the dip. His face was a different story - you don't want to get this mess in your eyes (or the dog's) so the best I could do was to wipe his muzzle with the wash cloth.
I can just imagine how hard it is to treat the whole body, yet so tough to keep it out of the eyes and mouth!
I will be waiting to hear everything when you talk to the vet.
I am really thinking a shot of ivermectin and again in two weeks and then see what happens....
Keep us posted!

Does this stuff need to get down to the skin? I have never had a dog treated for this so, so its a whole new thing for me reading this. I recall this stuff is hard to get into his coat. Depending on how tolerant Falcon is with this stuff near his face, could you massage it into this coat with your fingers. Kind of like a leave in conditioner that you use on kids since that stuff has to get down to the roots. Assuming this is wear mites mainly sit.
Or could you rig up like a squeeze bottle with a small pointed tip on it? Squeeze it when the tip is under the top layer of fur to get it where it needs to go? Would this be also easier to make sure it doesn't get in his eyes??
Just ideas. If you still end up having to use the dip.
Mary, your idea of the squeeze bottle is excellent for his overall coat - I wish I had thought of it earlier. I've been rubbing it down into the coat withe the washcloth, but it still does not penetrate like you would expect a liquid to do; the viscosity is very strange - it almost beads up. I have to more dips to go, and will give the bottle a try.
Meredith: I researched Emu. It has higher protein, copper, sodium, magnesium manganese, phosphorus, potassium, selenium zinc and vitamin b12. than venison ostrich bison beef turkey and elk. It is low in fat. I priced it at 4.00 a lb.
Maybe a source of food you would be interested in.
Hope your pups gets better soon.

I was thinking for a bottle like this, something along the lines of an empty elmers glue bottle or even a bottle similar to a home hair dying kit?
