Update: haven't heard from the vet yet; but Dublin's stools are looking better. I'm giving him chicken necks with 1/2 squirt of salmon oil and Probiotics. I am having a really hard time finding chicken backs but I bought a 40# box of necks and portioned them out three to a bag with the skin off of two of them. Does that sound okay?
Does he have great poops now?

And the chicken backs and necks do not happen before the poops are normal.

I would do exactly what the vet said (yes, including the fast), except that I'd mix the cooked (fat-removed) meat in with overcooked white rice (think soft and soupy for the overcooked rice). .... I advise you STRENUOUSLY not to do anything at all different with his food until you see perfect poops.
His poop is normal!!!!!! Yea!!! I'm keeping him on the same thing I've been doing; he's loving the chicken necks. Thank you guys for guiding me thru this!

So he is eating skinned necks and salmon oil? Nothing else? I would keep him on just that until you have a few days' worth of perfect poops.
Just an update... Dub is doing wonderfully! Thank you all for guiding me though strange waters. We've been quite busy with housebreaking, teething, and basic obedience. He's coming along and is eager to please. I have found that his favorite treat is beef liver, gizzard, etc. So, I cut it into small bite size pieces and freeze some in separate baggies. When we go out to train I just grab it and go. I bought the fanny pack from Leerburg that has the easy opening top. It's great!
