N litter is what I picked.. The pup in the picture below: I would rate the place about a med (6 out of 10). The place was clean. She was on about 30 acres of land and her kennel is separate from her house. Her job is breeding, Shutzhund and now she is doing a lot of herding. She owned 3 bitches I believe but 1 is for sale. She is very honest and will tell you everything that she does. I believe she owns 6 dogs right now each has a Kennel run that goes into a indoor (A/C) single kennel So all dogs are isolated, but I believe 4 of the 6 dogs are for sale. Depending on your point of view she might over socialize the puppies. After 5 weeks she does keep the puppies outside in a kennel that she sprays down every day..
I bought from her for several reasons.. but I did see three breeders first.
1. She has been around for more then 10 years and she is within 2 hours of me.
3. Her price was reasonable.. 1500.. The other two breeders I went to where around 2500-4000K for a puppy.. (with the same sire as the dog I am getting)
4. She really tries to pick a good pup for what you want to do.. She has given me several updates on teh progress of the dogs since I left.
5. Oh the most important thing.. The list of questions that are on this thread.. She was able to answer everything.. Somethings I liked somethings I did not.. but it gave me a good impression overall.
Also she will give you numbers to other customers and her Vet so you can check up on what other people think.
That said.. I believe that there are better breeders out there, you might pay more, but she is one of the more honest people I talked to. When we went to see the puppy she let us see it with all the litter mates.. and then in a room alone. She told us some of the test to do with the dog.. and I had a list.
Some of the other breeders where more well kept, but it felt like more of a pet store then a breeder (I like the farmer feel)
One of the breeders would not let me see where they puppies are staying.. I left that place ASAP
So i am not recommending or recommending blackthorn but it is worth a phone call.
I tried to be as honest as I could in this post.. I hope that helps.
I was a little afraid of the O line because i did not know if I could handle a full working line.. but now I think I probably could after watching 5 of Ed's and Mike Ellis's videos..
yeah , I think the Janzhaus dogs seem pretty good, but as I mentioned in the other post, I am not knowledgeable about pedigrees at all - and in serious need of advice!
your pup looks super cute - picked a name yet?
Phaedra, the female Kelly that was just bred on the Janzhaus site was bred at 19 months old & is shown as having good hips. Females should not be bred until 2 yrs old & you can't OFA a dog until they are 2 years old!
This is not the type of breeder I would want to purchase a pup from. JMO

they do have a lot of bitches. I have not visited the kennel yet as they are about 9 hours away from me. they have been breeding for about 20 years and I have spoken with customers who vouch for them. I obviously need to visit before I decide, I was hoping someone here would have had some experience with them. I just noticed the post about Kelly. thanks Anne I will definitely look into that and reconsider.

Edit reason: noticed more info
I would ask them why they don't have any titles on the males. They only have 3 studs, it would not be hard to get at least a SchH1 with each of them.
I am also wondering why there are no pictures of the dogs working. All of the pictures in the gallery are basically staged or posed... there is only one with a dog even holding a ball...
If selling dogs with working ability, it would make logical sense to have pics of the dogs working.. tug work or bite work at the bare minimum.... When Ed and Cindy were breeding, we would have been hard pressed to find pictures that did not have pups holding tugs or balls (as any Leerburg puppy buyer can attest to).
Perhaps things are different in Canada... But I would wonder about breeding a young bitch too... and honestly, they can't even spell her name consistently.. I saw Kelly, Keli, and Kelli -- Not that I don't like the name
