What is everyone doing with those active dogs who can't go out and play in this heat?!
My terriors love to play and get very restless in the heat. It has been 110 during the day and at night we have to get our sweaters out...ha! it goes down to about 85 when I go to bed by 9 or so. My dogs are very active. I have been getting them up earlier and taking them outside to run and stuff before it gets really hot, but it is not cooling down here much. Yesterday was better, it was 100. This morning I am taking them out by 7:00 and leaving them out for about an hour (I go out with them, that is another story) So, what are you guys doing to keep your dogs from being bored?
Sharon
Jennifer: yep I do that too. Now my Cody gets the other dogs all worked up about going outside and then as they go out the door, he runs back and lays down. As soon as they are shut outside, he runs into the living room and waits, for just what you are saying. We get out the flirt pole, play search games, do all the tricks me know, and then, he is just warmed up. then I start with the other two...
sometimes I will take all my dogs for a ride in the car.
Just was looking for ideas.
Thanks for the reply
I take mine outside to run, retreive & do some OB for 10-15 minutes, numerous times a day, & then back in the house to the a/c. I also use the treadmill, especially for my male. It is in my downstairs bedroom, so it is even cooler down there for them.
I can't wait for the fall weather! I hate summer as do my dogs!
The good news: this is supposed to be the worst week of the year, then it's supposed to improve (according to the Weather Channel, and in general terms).
I was thinking this myself, given that the days are already getting shorter and the Earth further from the Sun.
I sure hope you are right (errr... that TWC is right). This is waaaayyyyy to hot for me and mine. On the upside - two newborn baby chicks today!!! SO VERY CUTE. I do not need any more cute baby chicks however... not even hens. They better have VERY sweet personalites!

I hope so too Leih!
I just taught my two the word shade,
and while doing a short evening training session
they must come to the shade to get their ball!
Gotta do anything to stay even a few degrees
cooler! They aren't dumb......

I'm thinking Falcon would find them just fine and tasty

He most certainly would. I hate dispatching little ones however, but I also hate feeding ones I know I'm going to dispatch! Good thing I have a hubby who isn't bothered as much by the age/cuteness/etc..
