Natalya, have the Dr's said anything about possible histoplasmosis?
I know they are culturing the specimens but this crossed my mind and thought it might be worth mentioning. Maybe Dr. Betty would know if this is even a possibility.
My cousin's husband had a cough and had a routine chest xray as they were looking for pneumonia and they saw a mass in his lung.
It wasn't very big, but they took a biopsy and to their surprise it was a fungus in his lung.
Just doing some thinking this morning... and trying to figure out what this mysterious infection could be.?
Sending more healing thoughts and wishes your way!

Hi Joyce,
She did mention it last night, though said it was very rare in this area. They are planning on culturing the samples they took yesterday, though since it is a holiday today, they are waiting till tomorrow when their pathologist is back in the offices and can advise them on the best protocol. I gotta say, after doing a little reading right now, his symptoms do sound a whole lot like a fungal infection of the respiratory system... especially since the bronchoscopy revealed no abnormalities in the lung, aside from inflammation. (Googling is so dangerous for me though... too easy to get carried away...)
I'm preparing to go in for a visit with the beast right now - they requested I bring some of his "own" food with me, in hopes that he'll eat a little better for me, so I made him a bunch of tiny little meat loaves... but I will be certain to talk this over with the vet when I'm there.
Thank you for the good info and experience - with all these brains working on the case, we MUST be able to figure this out soon!!

You are such a good dog mom, bringing in tiny meat loaves! Seeing you and getting to eat something yummy should make his day!
Here's hoping you get some more good news today!
How long does it take for the cultures to come back in?

He LOVED them! A few minutes of intense crying and licking my face abated when he realized I had tupperware with me... then that food drive kicked RIGHT in! Even if his appetite isn't a huge indicator at this point, at least I know he got some pleasure out of proper good snack - he was only picking at the wet science diet they gave him, and boy do I not blame him! YUK!

Unfortunately, some of those fungals can take a week+ to generate results. The test for lymphoma will also take many days... and they won't start till tomorrow because today is a holiday and the pathologist isn't in till tomorrow...
Fingers crossed that I get a phone call end of day that says his temp is staying in normal range - it was down this morning, but with all the cycling, they weren't doing any happy dances just yet...

So glad to hear that he's feeling better! Nothing like a little meat loaf to perk up a pup's day! Keeping all fingers, toes and paws crossed here that his temp stays down.
If it stays down will they let you take him home while you wait for results?

The path can be hard to read, very hard to make the call between a working WBC and a cancerous WBC. Their pathologist may even send Oscars sample away
to someone else for a second opinion.
I'm hoping that he gets well enough that you can take him home while they complete their studies.

Well, nothing much was done today (on account of the holiday) besides monitor him for temp and physical condition, but a little bright spot has opened up - his temp has stayed normal all day! He also continues to eat and drink on his own, so they're going to start tapering down the IV fluids.
Given that so much is still up in the air, the vet is still proceeding with caution, but if things stay the same overnight, he should be able to come home tomorrow and at least hang with me while they carry on the rest of their tests. I want to keep my serious face till this whole ordeal is behind us, but I am so, so, SO excited at the prospect of bringing him home... if nothing else, he needs a bath!!
Will confirm more in the AM...
