New info from Hill's as of today. The website is slow so the link may not work:
http://www.hillspet.com/menu_foods/Menu_Foods_03302007_en_US.htm
Now they are recalling the DRY M/D cat food because of the wheat gluten. You know the dry dog food products can't be far behind.
And once again this news is released on Friday! This continues to be a slow drip of bad news and recalls in order to the fool the public over how bad it really is.

I agree with you Sarah.
Just goes to show that my husband was correct....he said,
"Well if you ever were to put these dogs back on kibble, it would cost me a fortune in vet bills with all this contaminated pet food crap going on."
(meaning I would panic at every crooked turd)
I didn't even comment on it when he said it, but he now knows my dogs will NEVER eat kibble again.

Add Purina Alpo to the list-
"Alpo® Brand Prime Cuts In Gravy Canned Dog Food Voluntary Nationwide Recall
March 30, 2007
Nestlé Purina PetCare Company today announced it is voluntarily recalling all sizes and varieties of its ALPO® Prime Cuts in Gravy wet dog food with specific date codes. The Company is taking this voluntary action after learning today that wheat gluten containing melamine, a substance not approved for use in food, was provided to Purina by the same company that also supplied Menu Foods. The contamination occurred in a limited production quantity at only one of Purina's 17 pet food manufacturing facilities.
Consumers should immediately stop feeding their dogs ALPO Prime Cuts products with the date codes listed below and consult with a veterinarian if they have any health concerns with their pet.
The recalled 13.2-ounce and 22-ounce ALPO Prime Cuts cans and 6-, 8-, 12- and 24-can ALPO Prime Cuts Variety Packs have four-digit code dates of 7037 through 7053, followed by the plant code 1159. Those codes follow a "Best Before Feb. 2009" date. This information should be checked on the bottom of the can or the top or side of the multi-pack cartons."

The news from Hills that their dry may be effected prompted a call from a skeptical cousin that knew I was feeding raw. They finally want to learn more about what I feed.
They were very disturbed that the Science Diet that they pay through the teeth for is manufactured at the same plant as all these other foods.
I'm working on a list of alternatives to send to them. I don't want to shock them with too much info, but want to educate them on the all natural kibbles, pre-made patties, dehydrated food and feeding raw of course.

EDIT: This is in response to an earlier post by Connie Sutherland, I hit reply instead of quote.
Well, what I've heard is not from any official source - so if anyone's feeding Nutro dry, don't panic.
I heard from several people feeding Nutro that their dogs recently began vomiting a yellow bile. My dogs are normally fed a different food, but my parents (sigh, I live at home) bought Nutro Natural Choice (before I heard about the vomiting), and one of my dogs began to vomit a yellow bile every few hours. I thought she had just gotten into the garbage or something, but after hearing about others with the same problem, I immediately stopped feeding Nutro and paid my parents to buy something else (they didn't want to because Nutro dry wasn't on the list).
So, what I've been hearing hasn't been official news - just word of mouth. According to one person, the FDA is investigating Nutro dry - but that may not be true, as I don't know the person who told me that news personally, and I couldn't find it on the FDA website.

I'd consider a link to the Leerburg guide. No matter what an owner is prepared to do (and is comfortable with), there are guidelines on Leerburg, from fresh (and I think of purchased frozen raw as pretty much the same category) to THK with RMBs to the better kibbles.
http://www.leerburg.com/all-natural%20kibble.htm
is a good list of kibbles that contain real food...... none of which were affected by the recall. Or any past recall.

For what it's worth. I called Breeders Choice, the company that manufactured Pinnacle since I use the Pinnacle Duck and Rice kibble formula along with raw. Being who I am, I just had to ask to make sure Menu was not the manfacturer. Well, as it turns out, Pinnacle CANNED Chicken and Oatmeal is made by Menu. At this time they don't consider it part of the recall. I can't help but wonder if the kibble isn't going to become a major issue too.

Thanks Connie, that's exactly the link that I sent them to get started. Glad to see they are at least questioning the commercial foods.

This site is updating continuously which foods are and are not on the recall list, including comments by the CEOs, notes by the site owner about info sources, etc.
Please link to the site if you cross-post, but do NOT copy and paste the list. The site owner (rightfully) is concerned about updates not being included in copied-and-pasted info. The major value is in the fact that the list is constantly revised as needed.
