That is why colloidal silver could help (it would have helped more before, we could avoid surgery).
For Pyo? Dragan I know you a strong believer in the silver but statistically your girl would of died a horrible death without the surgery.
And even if it was only a 1 out of ten chance that the treatment would not work would you want to risk that for her?
I am all for avoiding surgery if possible and will often try a non traditional approach. But I will be damned if I will experiment when my dogs life is at stake.
Thank you, Betty. I agree with you 100%. I'm also not quite sure why Dragan thinks the silver will cleanse her liver and do away with the diabetes (insulin is produced by the pancreas, not the liver). And again, the only way to get rid of a cataract once it has started for form is to have it removed. It will not disappear on it's own. There are many reasons a cataract can develop, but the only treatment is to have it removed - plain and simple. Of course, this is JMO.

I'm all for avoiding surgery and unecessary treatments, too, but I would never let my dog suffer, either!
DITTO.
Why not get the dog to a holistic vet?
Dragan, unless you have kept some advanced degree from us, you are in no way qualified to treat this seriously ill dog. Get the dog to someone who is and who also embraces alternative medicine.
The LB site has a whole list of holistic vets.
" I know most of the people only trust "official" medicine, but I don't. "
You're barking up the wrong tree here. You're talking to a board with many MANY people who consult with holistic practitioners (real ones, with degrees), who feed raw, who avoid overvaccinating, and much more. (My own physician is both Harvard- and Andrew Weil's Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine- educated.)
None of this makes me believe that I can treat a cataract.

I understand that you're stressed. I'm sorry. But maybe a few deep breaths and standing back to look at the big picture will help you see that you have taken too much responsibility onto yourself that belongs instead on a partnership between you and a vet you trust.

To get a degree, you read books, which were chosen by SOMEONE. You trust that body which decides on the type of education, even though you don't have a clue who these people are and how the decisions are made. You just trust the "society".
It very well may be that there was no other way to save Drina but this brutal surgery, but I am not convinced that it is a fact, and no quotes from official medical sources will convince me. I would have to hear from reliable alternative specialists, from the true natural treatment experts and compare. I just did not have time to do this research and made a hasty decision.
But, let's not discuss that, that is a totally different subject, and I really, really do not want to go into that. Let's just agree to disagree.
Of course I will contact a vet who is an eye specialist, our doctor already suggested that.
If you want to know, before Penicillin was invented, Colloidal Silver was an officially accepted antibiotic. The difference is - CS is more expensive and much, much healthier than penicillin. Big Pharma does not care about health, but they do care about money.
Drina is better today, she eats good and already barked at the boring neighbour who is cleaning the snow I said before that she only takes insulin, but we also give her some vitamin pills for her liver. Her eye is showing signs of recovery, but it is early to tell. Her blood sugar was law this morning, one step above "negative". So we still have hopes that her eye can be saved. Her cataract is not as bad, if she does not scratch it (she has been good so far), I think that she would not need a surgery, she can see well, judging by her behaviour.
Thanks again, and forgive me for being so stubborn with my views, but I am just being me.

Good.

I have no idea why you think this is not pretty common knowledge (except I don't know what "officially" means in this context). It was pointed out early in the thread that several here have researched, know about, and/or either might or would use CS.
Drina is better today
Good!

Back to top. "Of course I will contact a vet who is an eye specialist." Good.

Dragan:
I am probably out of line here but one of the reasons I feel the need to challenge your preferred method of treatment is that someone doing research could come across your post and think "Money hungry vets, I can treat this myself" and their dog will die.
Did you see the picture of the dog with pyo? Can you imagine that being treated with any drug?
In my opinion it's a little more then agreeing to disagree, some information should be challenged for the safety and well being of others and in my opinion this is one of those times.
As brutal as this surgery was on your girl it is a walk in the park compared to what would of happened to her without it.

I treat my dogs homeopathically when I can.... Pyo is NOT something I feel comfortable treating without a vet. I've seen dogs with Pyo. One had an open Pyo, and was flushed each day for about 10 days and she recovered.. and bred sucessfully...her infection was caught before it could get too bad. The other was a closed pyo and needed an emergency spay. BOTH dogs lived LONG and happy lives.
As an owner of 3 intact females, Pyo is my biggest fear. It's a DOG KILLER without immediate vet care. Pyo is NOT something to be toyed with.
Betty is an experienced breeder, and I have worked in 2 well respected kennels, including Leerburg. We've seen Pyo. It's not something you can treat without immediate veterinary intervention. If there are lurkers out there, PLEASE get your dogs to a vet if you ever suspect a Pyo.

I just don't know what is happening with her eye. There is a snowstorm, we cannot even go to the store, so I don't even know when we will be able to see the specialist. The doctor suggested one in Chicago, but time is running out. I don't know if her eye is getting better or worse. The white substance has been covering the bottom half of her eye. This morning she was active, even barking, but now she seems tired again. She is not in that much pain and her sugar is low. I just don't know what to think about the eye. The colour of the white substance is getting red, also seems to be losing thickness. I don't know if that is good or bad, and we are scared.

Can you ask the local vet if he can email photos to the specialist and get interim instructions? Did the local vet say cataract?
This sounds like an emergency to me, but I hope Dr. Betty will see this.
