Caitlin, this is also way off topic, but I just want to say this then I will shut up!
I am very impressed with the way you have handled yourself on here, I have seen dozens of people twice and three times your age, get defensive and downright rude when they have had some harsh advice, they usually storm off and you just KNOW they haven't heard or absorbed anything they have been advised, so good on you for conducting yourself with maturity, civility and courtesy.
I have been a dreamer all my 48 years, and I hated school with a passion, I have never been amenable to discipline and have an intense dislike for structured learning, I have been my own worst enemy most of my life, BUT.... the most humbling thing I have ever experienced is the simple relationship I have with my dogs, the ones I have now, and the ones I have lost, they teach you humility and patience and an overwhelming love that is rare with people, trust, loyalty friendship and utter forgiveness.
Dream your dreams kiddo, who is to say they won't come true? Keep a sense of reality, keep asking and listening, and when you DO get the best friend you will ever have in your life, come on here and tell us all about it, I for one will be really happy to hear all about it, good luck

Thanks. I didn't get angry I know I have many things to learn, but most of what I was told I already knew Lol. Yes Mom says she can tell I hate structured learning because I can spend hours on the computer or reading a book about dogs but when it comes to Math, nopeee I would rather go pick up the dog crap in the yard! Gunner has taught me a lot. Mostly how to be understanding. Like when he does something bad and I have to stop and think why did he do that and is the right way to fix it before I just start yelling at him. It always winds up being something I did wrong, not him. Whenever I do get my dog I will come on here ASAP and tell you everything about him and what I'm going to do.
I would like to say that one of the breeders that did not post HD sores or Xrays on their website DOES do hearing and hips. Going to learn more about their scores and stuff but I am just happy to know they do!!!

Will Rambeau
I think that these dogs would be ok as a general ranch dog, but I don't see much more utility in them.
While living in Italy, we had friends that had two Dogo patrolling the hills of their farm, moving the herds. I thought they were rather fascinating.
I have seen a few Dogo Argentino here, worked in various venues, experienced handlers, and still a handful.
Call the breed rescue, pretty sure there is one in your area, offer to help, get to know the breed up close, find out what breeder those dogs came from (if they know) Visit breeders, ask lots of questions.
Sheesh, When I was 17 I wanted a dolphin, only ever got to a Beta fish.

How were you going to keep a Dolphin? Get a saltwater pool LOL?
I looked around and there might be some owners here. I am seeing how to get in contact with them.

Caitlin, I'm not sure how much exploring you have done but the board has years and years worth of threads available. A lot of good information is available.

No pool-I'd walk to the end of the pier, connected to my oceanfront house, and call him(Marker Training).
Good luck in your research, and don't rule out other breeds.

Caitlin,
I think that you'd find that most of us had some type of dreams about a particular breed of dog that we thought was just to die for but we didn't get for one reason or another.
I always had wanted a Tibetan Mastiff, and in the days before the internet we could only read about a desired breed.
But as I matured and gained experience in dog training, I learned to seperate the hype from the reality of breed traits and I've learned to go for the dogs that could deliver the type of work that I wanted from them.
I guess that I'm lucky, a T.B. ? I'd be brushing that coat for hours!

Lol hey almost as good as my Mountian cabin next to a big blue lake! I think that is where I will keep my pet Alligator Haha, I will have to do some research and see if they respond well to Marker training. Some Alligator lines have agression in them so I have to be careful!!!
Back to being serious, I am not going to rule anything out really. If a Dogo or any other purebred doesn't work out I will get a rescue dog.
