I've never had Jethro bust out of his Starmark collar from lunging, I have had Skipper "wipe" his off twice now by rubbing his neck on the ground. I'm going to replace it for Skipper, but use a DD back up so we don't lose anymore.
I was checking out the prong collars for sale in our local pet shops and the sales attendant showed me the 'proper' way to fit it - with the prongs facing out!
I've found the Starmark has been great for Jethro when he is not in a stage of peak reactivity. For those few days we go back to the prong. Last fall he was using the prong 100% of the time for a couple of months. This winter he has been on the Starmark most of the time. He's going back on the prong for his next walk because he has definitely entered his stage 3? 4? of fearful adolescence.
As in, "BARK BARK BARKBARKBARK (transl. OMG look over here there is something I have to protect you from right now!!!) and I look over there and there is... nothing - not a bird, not a plane, not a cat, not a squirrel, not a nefarious character hiding behind the picket fence. Was it the squeal of the seagulls? Who knows. But stop pulling my arm out of its socket!

Niiiiiccceeeeeee........... wow. World is full of idiots and asshole!
Jethro must be channeling Amber, or Amber is channeling Jethro she protects me from anyone carrying a bag or who walks "different" then she does her kangaroo act to get a better look. Her starmark is doing well, and a much better solution than her harness.
My animals are not "like" family, they ARE family.
