Thanks, everybody. So far, so good. Timing isn't terrible, we had an ice storm yesterday, the store is closed tomorrow and Monday, so that will give her 4 full days of healing before I get back into the swing of things. I DID miss my date to ask to be excused from jury duty yesterday, but roads were awful and I wasn't leaving her home alone.
The cone was no better tolerated this time around. I have decided that if I find her suture area so much as damp from licking I'll wrestle it on her one way or the other, but until then take it one day at a time.
Betty, the incision area looks SO much better this time around. The vet was going to try to avoid an external layer of stitches, since there were two buried layers, but the skin was stretched too thin. However, she did not score the skin like last time, which I am thankful about.
Hopeful that two weeks from now this is all just a bad memory... I really appreciate all of your thoughts and kind words.

First day back at work and she is healing up great! My employee called in sick, so I have to run the whole store, wait on customers, AND not turn my back on her all day, but I'll get through it! Funny how a hurt dog puts little things into perspective.

It's going pretty well, although she's getting a bit stir crazy. I have Valium for her, and was going to not use it unless I absolutely needed it. But she's pacing and panting when people/dogs come in, and it's crossed my mind to give her a half of one anyway. But tranquilizing her seems counter-productive, and she'll still have the energy to burn off. Definitely interested in you folks' take on that one, too. Otherwise, another day closer to healed!

Connie, some sort of game should be an option. Anything involving toys seems risky, as she doesn't have a 1/2 speed, it's either stop or wide open. Part of the charm of this dog has always been her exuberance, but it's definitely not been a virtue for healing! She loves walks, but hates rain, and hasn't wanted to walk today or last night. Open to ideas!
