I,am also looking for a reputable place to purchase ivermec.
Does any know where on-line or what kind of stores sell it.
Also, "ivermec" or "ivomec", what is the correct spelling?

Everyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this something for which the vet prescribes varying dosages? I think I read on this very forum that it wasn't labeled for dogs. I also think I've read elsewhere that it wasn't appropriate for all breeds.
I might be confusing it with something else, but I don't think so.

Heartgard Plus has it in it, it's for dogs, prescribed by vet, there is also info on the internet about it not being tolerated by certain breeds (collies are one).
A lot of people buy the cattle and equine products and figure out the dose based on the heartgard dose in mg.
I think some issues are that (1) the product is apparently NOT uniformely distributed in the equine past when you get down to the VERY small quantities a dog would need -- (2) any warranty about efficacy is null and void -- some HW medicines cover the cost of treatment if dog becomes infected while on the product. (3) You need to know if the dog is senstive to ivermectin - mainly collies, I think.
I have been giving interceptor and will have to find out - I think it *may* be considered more effective than Ivermectin - I Know it also kills certain intestinal worms too.
The cattle product is a LOT cheaper and easy enough to dose.
I am pretty that ivermec is for swine. My breeder gave me some information on it, doses etc....when I read up it.....I did not feel comfortable using it. In fact, I tossed the information.

You beat me! Yes, I knew it was in the HeartGard I use but thought there was some problem with buying the straight ivermectin, and/or that the label didn't give dog dosages. I found strong discouragement against home dosing.
From VeterinaryPartner.com:
While we recognize that it is possible to buy ivermectin (Ivomec® through some catalogs, we strongly discourage this practice given the precise doses used for small animals and the potential for serious side effects if the product is incorrectly used. END
the issue is just as controversial as raw feeding is. I know a lot of "pack" dog owners (beagles, coonhounds, etc) who use the swine solution .27% Ivomec and have for years without any problems. But it's a lot of hassle each month to measure out and administer. A pill is so much easier!!
You can't compare it to a raw diet... people and dogs have been eating for thousands of years without dog food companies and mcdonalds! But Wolfie von Wildenhuis didn't go to Dr Wolfenstien DVM 1000 years ago to ask for heartworm preventative that needs to be carefully measured.
What exactly is the reason for people to not just go buy heartgard?? Is it an affordability thing? Because, some things are worth paying extra for... medical and maintainence costs come with owning a dog (which is why it really amuses me when people freak about a $1000 puppy then go to petsmart and buy $1000 in puppy crap on the way home from the breeders). The only reason I could understand for not giving your dog heartgard is because your dog has a physical reaction to it.
