Okay..okay...
Let the joke be a joke. I thought to post something light but guys I think it is serious I think it is the female next door that is in Season as it started the same time she wne ton heat.....I guess everyone got the joke. ....
Rashmi, I know I say this a lot, about very different behaviors, but is he getting lots of structured exercise?
I'm sure if anyone here knows of a serious or dangerous reason for this behavior, they will reply. Meanwhile, destructive, repetitive, and compulsive behaviors can be minimized (sometimes eliminated) by exercise.....enough walking (brisk walking) and/or playing outside to release frustrated energy.
I'm not just parroting something I've heard or read. I know this to be true, having seen it "work" many times over the years when suggested to club members or neighbors or friends whose dogs were eating the floor or the couch or barking incessantly.
Also, have you checked his tail for skin pruritis, which can be extremely irritating on the tail and hard for the dog to scratch at without using his teeth? It's spring, it's inhalant allergy time, it's the season.
There is a dog chasing it's tail and than there is a dog who is obsessed with chasing its tail.... It is just an occasionally thing or is your dog constantly in a state of sexual excitement? I know of a couple people who have actually had to dock their dogs' tail due to manic tail chasing. Some research has led vets to believe that manic tail chasing could be seizure related. Here is a link on tail chasing:

It took a few days but he has now completely stopped. You will have to stay on him and be real consistent with the e-collar.....I would also increase the dogs exercise. This is not something to mess around with as it can easily turn into obsessive behavior. http://www.leerburg.com/ubbthreads/showf...true#Post589192
Ditto. Nip it in the bud (and I don't care if I sound like Barney Fife).
I saw this one on the dog whisperer and it was also a gsd. He had the owners put a back pack (with things in it for weight) on the dog and take it for long walks. I *think* he also corrected the dog when it did it. It was a stubborn problem... Amusing though I've seen dogs do it but usually their owners just let them and we'd laugh
Guys- He does not do this all the time. He does not chase his tail...he chases torch light, birds, ball, slow moving cats who taunts him by standing in front of him and cleaning...but not his tail. This only started when the Bitch started to be in Heat. I think it will pass. If not, then I will do what you all suggested. I don't think he is obsessed over his body yet… He loves body of other people and animals….
