I would agree with the other posts. When you have a minor problem ask your vet what human medicines would be good substitutes. My vet is so used to it, when I call with a problem he just tells me a human med. He only gives me animal meds if he can't come up with a substitute!
Just an FYI, Tylenol is deadly to cats. Never give it. Always check with your vet for dosage and safety before administering any human medication to your dogs.

...... It bewilders me how you can give an animal aspirin. It really does......
Why?
NSAIDs have similar effects in dogs and humans. There's a trade-off between pain- and inflammation-reduction, and the possible side effects, like ulcers. A balancing act of continually assessing the benefit and the dangers.
Many meds can be given to our pets. Steroids, painkillers, antibiotics (not all, but I'll bet a good many do cross the specie barriers). Metronidazole is a med used for humans but it's widely used on fish.
It's good that you asked this BEFORE your dog gets sick! You can explore possibly cheaper alternatives by getting human meds or farm-supply meds. Hopefully your vet will be open to your questions (which you should discuss before the need arises).
Here's a site I found, as a nurse I can tell you acetominophen is very detrimental to the humn liver relative to quantity and frequency. A dog by comparison has a rather small, but as complex hepatic system, and might suffer the same detriment.
