Sure Alice, blame BM's and other breeds for aggression against children and claim your breeds innocence, lol <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />. Really, any breed can behave like that. I've seen very unlikely breeds display dominance. It's all about how you correct or prevent it, not which breeds are guilty, because they all can be.

The pictures of the Mastiff were to illustrate the stupidity of allowing a dog to do that just to take a cute picture. Putting that infant in a situation that could lead to a his/hers death. The breed of the dog in the photo is irrelevant. All breed of dogs can and will show dominance. I remember a couple years ago reading about a sweet loving Shitzu that would never bite attacked a baby and nearly killing the infant. A lady who lives 30 miles from me last year went out to feed the family pitbull with her infant in tow. She leaned over to put the food bowl down and the pitbull bite the infant killing it. The mother was severely mauled trying to fight the dog. She would have been kiled if it wouldn't have been for a neighbor. He happened to be driving by and saw the dog mauling her. He got out ran up to the dog and shot the dog with a 12 gauge shotgun. If these people would have read Ed's article and used the information these attacks might have been avoided.

Amen Tracy, I was thinking the same thing. The breed of dog wasn't the topic, it's the ignorance of the situation the pictures shows.

Was that what those pictures were for <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
Forgive us mastiff fanciers <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> The moral wasn't lost.

It would be nice if the 'parents' could be prosecuted on evidence of those pictures alone. My heart is in my throat, my God!

barbara, i haven't yet seen your PM, but i'll look for it.
i followed the links on the EM child maulings. a grown male that is only 140 lbs. is unlikely to be an EM, and much more likely to be a BM. as the vet who was quoted said, EMs in general are very kind-hearted. they are, in general, submissive to children, and unlikely to behave as the one in ed's article is pictured.
of course as so many have said, the breed is not what is under discussion, and bad behavior can surface in any breed, absolutely. however, as a long-time EM fancier, i felt obliged to point out that such behavior is highly unusual in an EM. they are usually passive, docile, retiring, and have very low drives. i've known some that are the exception (including my current boy), but still they are exceptions.

This thread IS NOT ABOUT THE MASTIFF BREED - its about how stupid some parents are with their dog and their children. Posts concerning the breed will be deleted. This is thread about IRRESPONSIBLE PET OWNERS.

Thanks, Ed. I'm not an expert on dog 'body language' but even I could see clearly in these photos what this dog is trying to say about the baby's status. I am totally flabbergasted at these pictures. I just can't imagine...reminds me of people who let their kids hand feed the bears in national parks so that they can get pictures. Has anyone contacted these parents and told them what was going on in those 'cute' baby pictures? I sure hope so, for the baby's sake.
