Mike, again, thanks for your comments. I like the idea of having them sit - Emma will do this readily and Rusty will sit if I push on his bum.
Alice - you're so right - I was reading the responses (to other posts) thinking how is this going to work? But you are entirely correct that I have a different personality of dog and I have to take that into account, which I wasn't.
I should clarify that I don't just "let them into the yard" - I know that's what I said, but when we're out I throw the ball or toy and basically try to keep them running the entier time to help wear them out. They also chase each other around the yard at top speed. Our leash walks aren't nearly enough for them so that's what we started doing.
Can you tell me what a K9 pack is and where I can get one? It sounds like just what I need.
I do have problems with pulling on the lead, a prong doesnt seem to help my male much; I have a really hard time keeping it high enough on his neck. And yes it's real tight; so tight that when it slides down I can't slide it back up unless I actually remove and put it back on. I have to do this every 20 paces or so. Is it because of the pulling?
Another question: I borrowed an electric Anti-Bark collar from a friend. It doesn't have any adjustable settings. (Is a bark collar supposed to have settings?) Anyway do you think this would help them in the yard?

http://www.wolfpacks.com makes a well-designed, reasonably priced dog pack. actually they have several styles.
also rei.com carries several brands of dog packs. the good ones are expensive.
you can get off cheap by rigging them out of bicycle saddle bags and backpack shoulder straps, but it won't ride as well as the dedicated dog packs will.
