I joined the forum to tell you about a great vet in Bellevue, WA. He has twice been voted "best holistic vet in Seattle", which is why I changed to him when I decided to feed raw. He is Dr. Tejinder Sodhi, 425-455-9946. He is a DVM and also does acupuncture, chiropractic, rehab and P.T., Ayurvedic medicine, homeopathy herbs, etc. My previous vet didn't like the idea of raw feeding, and I reckoned that she would attribute any problem to that.
I have a three year old Bernese Mountain Dog, Winston, who is frequently confused with a mixed-breed because he's lean! I started raw feeding with Ed's protocol (Thanks Ed) and have never looked back. Dr. Sodhi called him the healthiest Berner he's ever seen!

In the Washington, DC Metropolitan Area:
Animal Medical Center of Watkins Park
60 Watkins Park Dr.
Upper Marlboro, MD
(301) 249-3030
They have a holistic vet on staff and the owner feeds raw to her own dogs. And the best part is, she does schutzhund too... has even represented the U.S. on a couple IFR World Teams. They also keep a supply of Wellness, Innova, and California Natural in the office instead of that other junk.

If anyone knows of a vet in the Salt Lake City or Salt Lake valley area of Utah, who practices holistic medicine and is comfortable with feeding raw, please post to the list. I will keep looking too.

Hi Cindy. I've been on the fence about posting my own vet's info, as he is in the category of not necessarily recommending raw feeding, but not opposing it, or trying to talk us out of it either. There are several vets that work out of this animal hospital - our preferred vet is Dr. Tom Norris
Dr. Tom Norris
Crest Hill Animal Hospital
1807 Plainfield Road
Joliet, IL 60435
815-729-1155
When we first started feeding raw, we asked his opinion. Not to change our opinion, but just wanting to know if he would be supportive of OUR choice. Gary talked to him at length. Dr. Norris acknowledged that he has "many" (not sure how many) clients who feed raw. With the exception of only one dog (and we don't know the details) he feels that the dogs being fed raw are all doing well health wise. He acknowledged nice coats, nice teeth, etc. His issue as a more scientific sort of person, is the lack of tightly controlled studies rather than just emperical evidence. However he's not arguing at all with the emperical evidence.
I decided to go ahead and include his information based on a recent experience. We don't know our elder Beagle's age for sure, but he was somewhere near 10 by the time we started feeding raw. So of course his teeth already had quite a build up from years of kibble and no RMB's. Beagle recently had surgury to remove a benign cyst from the edge of his right eyelid. It needed to be removed because of it's location - and potential damage to the cornea just from blinking.
While he was under anesthesia, we had his teeth cleaned and there were a couple of teeth that were very loose and were removed. When discussing the feeding plan following this procedure, Dr. Norris agreed that a couple days on "soft" Embark Nature's Kitchen formula would be appropriate, he recommended that we get back to his regular food (RMB's + the other stuff on the menu) by day 3. He suggested that with the couple of bad teeth gone, Buck would probably enjoy his RMB's even more, and that the RMB's would help keep his teeth in better condition going forward.
So - he earned my vote for at least a mention.

Can't say that this vet is an advocate of raw but, doesn't oppose it and is trying to learn more about it, is basically waiting for more stats. Admits that he is amazed at how healthy my dogs look. He has been very open-minded with me.
Dr. Bob Cunningham
Veterinay Associates of Hattiesburg
1907 Broadway Dr.
Hattiesburg, MS 39402
601-261-0973
He is also the vet for several law enforcement agencies so has an understanding of working dogs.
