Consuelo, I applaud you for posting this question. you are right, it is easy to get carried away & want to breed. I don't think anyone was trying to say they thought you were an idiot, in fact I'd bet dollars to donuts everyone who is a breeder is glad you are asking. The thing is, whether it sounds harsh or not, what everyone is saying is right, as far as good reasons to not breed your dog. another good reason to spay is an illness called pyrometria. This disease can quickly kill intact females, (I believe within 24hrs of onset), especially if you are the least inexperienced in dealing with intact bitches. If I were you, I would probably be excited about having such a nice dog too, but I really believe the breeding needs to be left in the hands of the experts!

Ok, I officially retract the "I'm not an idiot" apparently I am for leaving my dog at that vet......
Idiots don't log on and ask questions of more experienced owners. And if they did, they wouldn't read the answers. <img src="http://www.leerburg.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
Well, live and learn. You'll kick yourself over it (and maybe even want to kick the vet), but your dog should come out just fine and you can move on. No real harm done except to your pocketbook.
And do look for a new vet <img src="http://www.leerburg.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
Edited to add - I had my dog spayed,a full blood panel done and 2 benign mammary tumors removed and biopsy done for about $350
Hello again I am glad to hear that you decided to spay your female-you did good!! I understand about waiting until 12 months of age before spaying or nuetering. I had read and from person issues see too many good dog never fill out like they should due to the fact that they were spayed or neutered to early. But from Breeders point of views with so many tim , dick and john out there wanting to breed and making money you want to get them altered in ASAP! it is damm if you do and damm if you don't. But again you made the right choice you should be proud of yourself.
500 sounds a little high but then again I live in NC so I don't know the going rate out there. But do know it depends on wieght.
Here's the run down of the bill. Sorry if this is a violation or nobody cares. I figure lessoned learned, call around next time and she will be healed by my cruise and I won't worry about her being at the kennel recouping or going into heat driving those other dogs crazy.
177 ovariohyst (i guess the spay itself)
76 preanesthetic profile
34 injection 60-79.9# (whatever that is)
45 heart worm test -- is that normal
21 the stupid collar
77 iv fluids & cath short term
48 more heart guard
16 rimydyl 7 tabs she get 1/2 a tablet.
they wanted to keep her overnight which is included in the price but nobody is there 24 hours, i don't work til 4pm so I am watching her keeping her crated (42" one) and taking her back at 1030 so they can recheck her. I'm sure she is happier here than there.
