I don't know how old this puppy is now and what you are feeding him?
It could be the diet, especially if the pup was weaned early. It sounds like (from the original post) that the pup was found and barely had teeth yet? At 5 weeks old the digestive system is still working on learning to digest solids, along with mom's milk.
If I had a pup that was younger than 6 weeks, I would be feeding goats milk along with ground meat and then work up to a "real diet" of raw meaty bones.
Good for you on not allowing any vaccines at this time!
let us know what you are feeding and how the pup is doing.
Hey Guy's. Sammy has coccidia. I'm feeding him Nutro Ultra for large breed puppies. His stools are alot better because of the pumpkin, thank God, but I'm still worried. He's eating and drinking like a little pig but I'm reminded of "the calm before the storm". The vet gave him some albon. I think he spit more on me than he actually swallowed. Any pointers on that would be GREAT! As for the raw diet, I look at Ed's pups and I'm in awe. The problem is I'm scared of screwing it up and hurting my pup in the long run. If I could find some carved in stone instructions, I'd do it. Worst case senario I give up cable for a healthy and thriving pup/dog. . .no contest, my pup comes first. Sarah, hate to hear your puppy's tummy's still upset. If you haven't tried adding pumpkin to his food, try it. My pup would be crazy sick if I hadn't tried it. Keep us posted.

Hi Franchesca...Sorry to hear about the coccidia but thankfully you now know why your pup's stool is runny. We see a lot of pups at work with coccidia and they do get over it and grow healthy. I've been giving liquid meds to my guy and I've found getting down on the floor with his body between my legs and holding him under the jaw, head up, helps get the meds in. But, I've been splattered as well.
Things are better for my boy now but I, too, have the whole issue of food to deal with. He's on Hill's I/D (I know, crummy food, but it has stopped the diarrhea) for the short term then I'm going to try to gradually change him over to a quality kibble/raw diet. I'm probably as nervous as you are about raw so we can wring our hands over this together!

Take care and let us know how your pup is doing.
