Woo hoo! I'm FINALLY off to the airport, someone remind me to breathe!
Aww, thank you so much guys! That nearly brought a tear to my eye! I'm quite the novice with GSDs even though I love and respect them beyond question. After reading Ed's article on the AKC I was shocked to learn that severe angulation in the back was not the intended structure for the GSD, and I'll admit it was my least favorite trait. I'm extremely glad that I didn't mess up in choosing my new partner. I was looking for a working line over a show line, and thanks to your learned input it appears that I have it! Shush about Eurosport though, you guys are much too perceptive! Thanks again for sharing your knowledge, Brooke
He absolutely does not have a sloped back. His stance in the picture you posted is rather "stretched out", so hence the slope illusion. But you can see there is no extreme slope in your new soon to be dog. He's perfect IMO. The croup does have to have a slight angle, that's the way it should be. I went to Eurosport and saw his pic and a couple of his videos, and there is no problem with his conformation. In obedience video, when walking, you can see his beautiful back, just as it should be. In fact, I think you got one of the most beautiful Shepherds they had for sale. If I were to choose from those dogs, he would have been my choice as well. I personally think he's the best looking of the bunch. He's perfect. You chose well!!!
By the time you read this, you'll be back from the airport with your dog. How exciting Have tons of fun!!
That dog is simply stunning !!! If you decide you don't like his looks, please send him to ME <;-) I really love his coloring (would you call it sable?)...
Well now first you must tell us everything about him after you get him home, THEN you can breathe.
Don't rush the bonding process with intense training, let him get to know you and your routine while you get to know him, keep on top of the leadership protocols and let the bond happen. I'm sure you've read all that already, if not, this is the right site. Anyway, details! What are your plans for him? He looks awesome, congrats.
Brooke,
I love the dog in the picture, would you send dsoem more pictures out when you get him , I would love to see his head shot.
Love red sables and think they are beautiful. But like an another member said wait till you have him a while and see if he is still as beautiful in the field as he is in the looks department. Looks can be deceiving. Best luck to you!
By the way any titles on this dog?
That dog is a Czech Working dog. No where near the American bred showline "working" dog, and you should be proud. Now get to work, put some titles on him.
Cant wait till I have mine.
