I know that your pup is past the critical stage for social imprinting but those who breed pups may be interested in this information. It seems that animals of other species that are introduced to a pup during the primary socialization period (3-12) are much less likely to be viewed as prey. I have introduced cats and encouraged them to eat with the pups during weaning. If the new owner continues to expose the pup to cats, NONE of them have showed any cat aggression. My cats sleep in the dog house with my one year old dog. (she has a Leerburg heating mat) Berk who never saw a cat til he was two considers them a prime prey target despite numerous efforts to change his mind! Just a thought.
My litters get plenty of exposure to my cat. Although every one of the pups in my latest litter exhibited excellent drives, not one of them showed any cat agression. I agree with Cindy on this one, but it takes a special kind of cat. The greatest trouble I have is with new pups brought in from other kennels. It can still be worked out though, with perhaps alot of effort.
