OK Cindy. I FINALLY got the pedigree today. Maybe someone here can tell me what I got b/c I'm am clueless. Does anyone know the kennel/breeder and or what they are producing. Not that it matters much, I like him alot and he will be a great working dog. Sorry but the original pics are gone.
Howard,I was totally impressed with his OB.Did you do the OB yourself and did you use a e-collar and at what point? His bite work was very good for only a few times doing it.He Looks like he had a nice firm grip.
Steven, He had zero OB training when i got him. It was all done with focus reward method. The e-collar is on him just in case he were to do something stupid while I had him off lead. His grip is pretty good. I can't complain.
Howard, can you explain the focus reward method, because watching your pup he looks like he is having a good time with you.I'm always interested in other methods through positive motivation. I base my training off Leerburgs style since i probaly bought all of EDs videos. I'm always open for new ideas.
Once he learned that good things only come after he focuses on me I transferred a food reward to toys. It's a step by step process where the dog learns that to focus on me and listen to what I tell him, along with staying in position means that a reward is forthcoming. Dogs with good play/prey characteristics makes it easy to use the toy. If it takes food to get the desired focus then do so.
A lot of the training is using markers as well. Ed has a podcast that explains how to train with markers and it is effective. At times I've used the drive-compulsion-drive method as well whenever there are distractors. Overall I'm pretty happy with the results for the amount of training I've done with him. I'm not worried about him being perfect in the OB as my training regiment is based on what is expected of a PSD not sport.
