Thanks for the support. I just went today and bought all new food. I figure I may have dropped the ball all these years but it is never to late to get in the game. Spent hours and hours researching RAW and there are certain things that he can and cannot have and I found a recipe that is like the embark and ones of that nature.
I am switching all 4 of them to raw( I have 4 dogs total). I had been feeding natural for years, but it IS processed and I am doing everything I can to prolong the inevitable. Found this http://www.sojos.com/. Talked to a doggie nutritionist and added Milk thistle and a few other liver specific supplements. I went and got the food today and I have to say, the grain mix looks like I could warm it up with some Brown sugar and banana and have it for breakfast. And the Euro blend looks delish! I have to add the raw meat, and chicken is what he can handle. No red meat, period! Too much ammonia. So, I am doing what I can to give him a little more time.
Thank you for all of the support.

I think it is awesome that you are being immediately proactive with this issue.
It took me a while to accept that my dog MoJo had the kidney failure. I too changed his diet and supplements--you're right, never too late to start. It really helped me, knowing I was/am truly doing all I can for him at this time.
Early on in his diagnosis, it seemed I was constantly looking at him and anticipating an "any second he will display extreme symptoms" and the "he could die any second" and "oh he's sooo sick....:9
Luckily, for me, I became aware of how often/much I was thinking those kinds of thoughts...I challenged myself to focus on his smiling eyes, his appetite, his giddy up and go. Sure, I'd see him (and he still does) drink a 1/2 pan of water in one sitting, but, he's thirsty, right?
It may seem like there is a fine line between that type of thinking and flat out denial, however, I am fully aware of his sickness. Now though, that the initial shock of the news has subsided, I can keep it in perspective and appreciate him and his special needs. I know him better now than I've known him in the past.
I wish you the best on your path, attaining knowledge, and caring for your aussie. Please keep us posted on his status.

Danielle,
Just coming into this thread now. First let me say how sorry how I am to hear of your dog's diagnosis.
I hate to be a 'wet blanket' but grains and carbs of any types are contraindicated for cancer dogs. Grain converts to sugars, which feed cancer!
I suggest this article http://b-naturals.com/Jun2004.php
Lew Olson has helped me a lot with supplements for my dogs over the last dozen years or so. She has Rotts and has battled cancer with one of her dogs in years past, which in turn fueled much of her research to create supplements to help our dogs, especially cancer dogs.
Best of luck with your dog, and keep us updated please.

Cindy, Yeah!!!
Okay I was there all day on B natural you sent me that and I was reading this http://b-naturals.com/Apr2004.php half way down carbohydrates list is what I got. And I have a mix of veggies and flax and kale, calcium, kelp and a few others. I got the cottage cheese, yougurt, egg shell, and he has been on synovi G3 soft chews for before the diagnosis. The grain is rolled oats, rye flakes ground pecans, raw carob parsley leaf and nettles for ammonia absorbtion. Plus he has Hemolytic anemia. Ouch! ( to ass insult to injury). So i have to be careful for fats, and I got salmon oil. But they said that was okay.
Wet Blanket, Please any help is great.

So sorry to hear about your Aussie, Danielle. I lost a Shar Pei to liver cancer at the age of 9 years. Her first sign that anything was amiss was not finishing a meal; a highly unusual occurrence for her. Blood work was indicative, then radiographs and an ultrasound confirmed it. She made it for about 8 months after her diagnosis. Hers was inoperable as well.

Just to know,
TOday is bad. He is laid out like a pancake. It is noon and he cant even muster up the strength to go potty. So, we are laying on the floor, talking about good things and enjoying eachothers company. If we have to do this all day...Well, that is just what we will do.
