Hypoglycemic puppies act very sleepy, or groggy. Their blood sugar drops, and they behave as though they are sedated. They may also be cold to the touch.
I would feed this pup every 3 hours and keep some Karo syrup on hand, if she seems to be showing signs of hypoglycemia put a few drops of Karo on her tongue, it will perk her up so she will be able to eat.
I would also take a stool sample to your vet, to rule out any parasites. I find it hard to believe that a person who allows puppies to leave mom so early would do anything for worms.
Worms and intestinal parasites like coccidia can kill a very young pup in such a stressful situation.
I don't recommend human heating pads for puppies, they get too warm and pups can be burned. You can use a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel for her to snuggle against, just make sure she has an area to get away from the heat if she wants to.
I still can't believe this 'person' sent out a pup under 4 weeks old, that's criminal in my book!

Thanks for the info everyone, she doesnt act sedated or anything although she does sleep quiet a bit but I am assuming that is due to its age,but she always eats vigourisly and walks around and is awake alittle while afterwards, Yeah i e-mailed the breeder back this morning to ask if she used any de-wormer but I havent gotten a response yet, when I talked to the breeder last night she basically acted like it wasnt to big of a deal like I could bring her back if I needed to but she wanted me to talk to my vet about it first. I tried finding a dog heating pad but havent had any luck, I will try to find a heating bottle today while I am out and about, it is kinda weird having to schedule my day around a puppys feeding schedule but I dont mind as long as she keeps getting bigger and stronger, is it okay to feed her every 4hrs or should I do every 3hrs? Also is 3oz each time to little? Thanks for all of the information that everyone has givin me at has been a lifesaver!!

Sandy I agree , the person that sold these puppies should not have let these puppies go, she advertised them at 3 weeks of age !Unconscionable. I sure hope she never as another litter again.I also hope that this puppy lives , and lives a good life.
This kind of stuff makes me angry, and so many other "breeders" out there do the exact same thing, sell puppies at 3weeks of age,and could care less about them. They only care about making some dollars off these pups and that is IT.Sorry ,a bit off the subject but I had to vent....

Hey I totally agree with you I dont think that she should be selling them so young, hopefully mine is a lucky one since she is here with me getting the care she needs, the breeder told me on the phone yesterday that the male was so old he was losing his teeth and that the female had problems having the babies so she is gonna have her spayed since she is getting old as well, I pray to god that she does so no more pups will have to go through what I am sure many of her pups have. Mine seems to be doing great though, she eats alot and vigourously everytime that I feed her and she gets around some before she sleeps, I even got her to try some soft dog food, can I ask what is the deal with putting raw hamburger meat in their formula? Is that safe for them? Can't they get diseases from that just like we can? Just another question from a newbie, but I do have to say she does love the puppy formula from here!! Thansk again

Just my "gut feeling" here, BUT, this woman sent home a puppy who was barely 3 WEEKS old <:-( I would return that baby & demand a full refund -- Then I would do some serious research & buy a different pup from a responsible/reputable breeder (which the first one was NOT)...
You will want to see PROOF of numerous health screening certifications on the new puppy's parents, just for starters -- And I would be surprised if the pup you have right now doesn't end up with at least one very expensive health problem, which is just one reason why I'm advising you to return it sooner, rather than later <:-(

I'm with Candi on this. I know your husband got the puppy as your birthday present (Happy Birthday, by the way), but the pup's too young to be away from the mother. There are social development stages that pups go through where they need their mother & litter-mates to help teach them how to be dogs & how to behave. What the "breeder" said about the age of the parents also raise red-flags for me As with people, there are more health issues involved with pups born from older parents. Do you guys know anything about the genetic health problems in your dog's lines? Did the pup come with a health guarantee or other paperwork which reputable breeders give you?
I don't mean to make it sound as though I'm slamming you or your husband, I'm concerned about your pup's well-being. Good Luck!

Okay so I know that some of you would like to see me take the pup back but as a true dog lover of any kind, breed, age, illness or whatever I can't do that, becaue I know that if I did it would end up in either another home, probable a worse home or if nothing else dead, regardless of any health problems that may arise she is a dog a puppy and should not be "thrown out" like a piece of garbage, every dog needs a loving home no matter what, so I will keep her and hope and pray for the best, I will take her to my vet probable tomorrow, I should have called today but it totally slipped my mind, I really do appreciate all of your comments and hope to continue to recieve help and support thank you all so very much

No problem, just trying to save you a TON of heartaches down the road (never mind the expense, especially if you're rather well off financially!) -- Best of luck with this puppy <:-)
