It's not just the dog food industry. Beef producers did the same thing. I think (hope)the practice has been stopped. This is sick and wrong!! So glad we switched to raw...thanks to everyone who promoted it on this board. I am working with a potential convert right now. She has seen the difference in my dog and this hideous info will probably be the clincher.

The problem with any "research" done on a subject that has alot of $$$$$ involved in it you will find that some research that says "good" things are paid by one party and the "not so good" things are paid by the other.Hummm who to believe...
I don't care cause I feed raw but someone is getting rich from this sickening food.
PS Hope you had fun!!

Upon skimming through I read that it is legal for kibble companies to use euthanized pets as "food" that goes into their kibble. It gives a list of who utilizes this "process".
Who wrote the book? And more importantly, who are the companies? PM me, so we don't "libel" those wonderful pet-lovers.

Becky, maybe I'm misreading your question, but the names of the companies, including detailed measurements of their various foods are included if you scroll down the pages on the "critter chat" link I inluded in my last post. It's always hard to know who to believe, but I keep seeing the same companies listed over and over, and c'mon, for the prices of these foods...there's got to be SOMETHING nasty in 'em.

Like "by-products." Feces, etc., scraped up from the floor. Yeah, let's feed our animals that...

I'm gonna get hell for this, but.... To be fair, our animals feed that stuff to themselves, and often find it tasty and nutritious. Lots of dogs snack out of kitty litter boxes, lick their butts, eat their own feces, snap up horse hoof shavings when the farrier is working, eat half-decayed dead things they find outside, all without any harm. If you feed green tripe, wouldn't that contain feces (when does it change from "digested matter" to "feces")? It's our sensibilities and sensitive stomachs, not the dogs', that keep you and me from feeding them what we consider yucky stuff.
That being said, I feed my pets human grade raw food, and bury all my lost buddies in the yard.

Anita,
I agree with you that the dogs do this themselves and I also agree that now that I know this I feel a little guilty for feeding kibble all the years that I did (especially the cheap crap from years ago), but I now feed RAW so I feel better.
I would think that the cheaper the food the worse the contents so I do keep some "good" quality kibble around for the days when I fail to take something out and also, the dogs here for training are on kibble also. Most owners bring their own food so I oblige them by feeding it, although I do mention what I know.
I think the biggest thing for me is that this is allowed to happen and people have to pay for it and trying to get answers is like trying to pull teeth out of a mad bull.
