Even I'm afraid to make a witty comment on this one!!
Well....I figure if tattoos caused problems with ears, then Will's ears would have been flopped over a long time agooo................lol Sorry Will, I have been resisting the need to post this all day!!
Is there a reason as to why you should tatoo on the ear or on the inner rear leg. I recently was given a tatoo gun (the old traditional stlye that gave Will his from a vet that says everyone is getting the chip. I have tatooed my oldest dog. I have a pup and need to do the same. Was gonna do inner rear leg as well on him. Just wanted to know if the ear was for any technical purposes?
Just a guess, but I think the show and schutzhund dogs are required to have it in their ears. Probably makes it easier for the judge to see their tattoos whereas the inner thigh tattoo would be cumbersome. I of course am no authority on this subject, just thought I would add my thoughts to the convo!
Oh, I don't blame a tattooer for an ear not coming up on a pup. I blame an owner for not keeping the tattoed ear clean and treating an infection if such a thing would happen... which is rare.
Soft ears are definitely a genetic issue. Even the pup I had seen w/ the broken cartilage had its ear come up just as strong and firm as the normal one.
I remembered this post from a while back. And there is a new post about Eurosport K-9. I was reviewing their site and found a bitch on their named Betina pod Ostrym vrchom (Cela). They said her ear is floppy due to an injury. Interesting
