Well things are going good so far. We have brought Bisco inside as of last Wednesday night. He has been spending alot of time in his crate in the family room where we watch TV and near where we eat. He can see all that is going on. We let him out with his leash on to be around us, but we are keeping constant watch on him. He has been doing well with going outside, but always on leash as we will be fixing the backyard where he wore out the grass while he as an "outside" dog.
The only real challenge right now is he seems to not eat on the same schedule. We used to feed him in the morning and evening and he ate like clockwork. Now, I take him out to eat in the morning and he only drinks, and drinks alot. Then he'll throw up the water he drank.
Any insight on the drinking/eating would be much appreciated. By the way, he spent the entire day today while I was at work, following my wife around the house and then she took him with her to pick up/deliver kids with great success. He definitely seems happier.
This may seem obvious but does he have water when he's in the house? He might be feeling dehydrated in the mornings, so he's drinking too much. He should have access to water overnight.
I am glad he is happier, he probably feels more included and like he's "one of the pack" now.
elaine: we use frontline plus, you could try switching like someone else said. for treating the house, i recommend sophitrol spray. our first spring here in a house that'd been locked up with stray cats able to get in for two years was absolutely miserable. you could see the fleas bouncing on the carpets! we tore up almost all the carpet but any area that was fabric kept getting reinfested.
frontline took care of the animals (we don't apply it during the winter, because they never seem to get even one flea) about two days after a fresh dose, but the fabric areas stayed infested. the sophitrol spray that i actually found in the house, brand new, still cellophane wrapped, slaughtered all the fleas. the difference was incredible. i'd recommend it, despite the somewhat hefty price. this spring i'm hoping to have enough money to do the lawn - the bugs in our lawn are terrible in springtime.
so yeah, i'd give a switch in on-animal product and something like sophitrol for fabrics and carpets.
kevin: i personally don't believe the adage that you can't teach an old dog new tricks. i hope he does well inside, and enjoys the closeness with his pack.
Things are still progressing overall. Had one incident where he "wandered" into the formal sitting area of our house and hiked and peed on a chair. Took him "outside" immediately and then to his crate and have blocked off that room.
He is really doing well with the 3 year old and the older kids.
Still working on the water situation and adjusting to the new feeding routine.
All is well for now. Will update again. Bisco and the family are really liking this new living arrangment.
