not only are animals at risk, but i have a friend who had to have four fingers on her left hand amputated. it seem a brown recluse bit her on the back of her hand while she was sleeping.the infection was so bad, that amputation was the only way to save the rest of her hand. she was a secretary, but now is unemployable,at the ripe old age of 27. court stenographers need two hands .
All spiders are very hard to kill without direct contact from the inscecticide. The aren't very sensative to residual poisons like roaches and many other "bugs". You could always get a couple of small lizards as pets. They love spiders.
ummmm...not an option...unless I could count them as RMB......Luke would "enjoy" them - I'm sure...
We've had tokay geckos "wild" in the house for years. One of my cousins from Ghana talked me into trying it.
They do a number on the bugs and spiders. We used to have a problem every fall with big, hairy, black spiders that came in, and the rural area where we live seems to be fly central until the dead of winter. The tokays must kill them, I never see spiders now, and the flies don't last long. They will eat mouse pinkies and hoppers too, but we've not had a mouse problem (knocking on wood).
Tokays are a "big" gecko. They can give a dog or a person a wicked bite. So we have to watch out for them when digging in closets, etc. They "bark" and will often warn you before they bite. They are fast, and typically hang out on the ceiling or high shelves.
We have a feeding station for them on the kitchen counter where I put grubs, and a heat/uv lamp, and we leave the sink dripping for them. They won't drink standing water. We don't see them very often, The dogs notice them when they run across the ceiling, but the geckos never come near us or the dogs.
My best buddy was a Nam vet (now deceased). He used to talk about roasting rice paddy rats. Forget now what he called them but said they were lots bigger even than the "city poodles" we played with back in the alleys in the old hood.
