Butch, Canidae does have yeast. I went to the site and read the ingredients. However my vet said the food wasnt the cause but I suppose depending on the actual cause it CAN aggravate it or worsen it. I havent personally tried the tuna thing, or the drops. I will ask my vet when I see him on the 10th if switching food would help at all.
I fed canidae for over 4 years due to yeast infections on my male. Did great on it until earlier this year. they changed the type of yeast and fish they were using. Anyway, didn't think anything of it until about 1wk 1/2 later and taking him into the vet for the first cortisone shots in years. Stopped feeding it immediately. Found out alot of people in our area have had dogs scratching etc. They just recently changed the cat formula as well and have heard similar stories. People thought their dogs had a flea outbreak and were double dosing on flea meds just to have it be the food. No thanks.
angela, i've heard this story from one or two others. i thought they might have been mistaken, but it seems as there certainly is validity to all this. guess i won't be feeding my dog canidae any more. that's too bad. it was a reasonably priced food. did your dog get better after you started feeding him a different type food? what did you begin feeding your dog?
I put him on BARF, in about a wks time, ears weren't black anymore, were pink, no more bloody paws from chewing and he stopped losing all his hair. It's been about 8 months now and his coat is wonderful, no more doggy smell, and best of all, back to no more cortisone shots. I've since switched all my dogs over to BARF and they all are doing well.
I started off with chicken quarters, necks. Have added turkey necks, I get a ground beef mixture for .44/lb here locally. I get beef kidney or heart for organ meat. Farmers market I get the veggies, carrots, spinach, etc. Ed used to have the BARF book on his website which gave me the basic info. Rawdogranch.com has more info as well as an excel spreadsheet to help you figure out how much to feed and how much you'll have to buy for a wk or a month. I buy for a month. I add alfalfa and kelp powder, cottage cheese, eggs, etc in the veggie mix. Hope this helps!
