Me too Mara. My dog was on kibble during the first several months (he's 22 mos. now). I didn't notice any smell but I didn't get any compliments either.
Well after switching him to raw, I guess about 9 months now, strangers pet him and so often tell me, "Your dog smells so good"!
What is interesting for me to note is that my first generation 'raw' dog (border collie) still have some odor in his mouth as well (he also likes to roll in sheep poop but that doesn't count!). My other dogs are all 3 asnd 4 generation raw and they have NO smell to them at all. My border collie also does not chew raw bones like the other dogs. Just doens't like it.

That IS interesting about the generations.
I know this is weird, and I'm the only person I know who feels like this, but I rather like the dog smell - not the horrible "you need a bath smell", but the mellow barely there musky dog smell, if anyone knows what the heck I'm talking about.

That's interesting. Missy has been on at least part raw for over a year now, and has no odor. But she didn't really have much of one before. She also rarely sheds (yay!), and Kipp has hardly been shedding since he's been on Canidae. It will be interesting to see the difference when I get Kipp on raw. Missy took to raw like a duck to water. Kipp is a big chewer, and has loved the recreational bones and occassional turkey necks I've given him.
I know what you mean, I like that smell too. It's the I've licked everything in a 6 foot radius smell that is a little off. Usually my boyfriend notices it long before I do but it must be a species issue for him because his ferret smells like ass and he thinks she is a rose. I just bathe the dog weekly and the ferret as well and I have a parrot that gets daily baths so I spend a lot of time having water shaken all over me.

Want to know what's weirder? I love the smell of the bottom of dog paws! They always remind me of the smell of hot rocks in the summertime when I was a kid!
It's nice to know (for the first time in my life) that there are others who like that dog smell. Who knew?
Thanks Judy, Sierra had the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen in a dog, and a personality to match. They were like doe's eyes. Round shaped, dark and deep.
