I own and run a boarding kennel near Carlisle, PA. It's 2 miles off 81 which is one route north/south that may not be too far out of your way. I am definately familier with working-line GSDs and would be happy to keep him.
I know someone who does Schutzhund there on Friday nights; I'll ask her if she knows anyone who uses their boarding services and will PM you if I get any more info.
A HUGE thanks to everyone (and by that I mean a lot of people) who have responded in this thread and/or sent PMs. This is an amazingly wonderful webboard, and I'm constantly grateful I found it.
Odd...on their website they said that during the weekend period the dog is only allowed to stay one night, yet there is a two day minimum boarding charge. Is this a common practice?
Also, they require that they give your dog a basic groom after a three day stay. I don't think Carbon will need 3 baths in a 10 day period!
Also, I'll need more than one weekend night so they probably won't work for me. Thanks for the tip though, I really do appreciate it.

Hmmm. Amber. Well, you're nice enough - I guess. Maybe, I don't know.
But let's be honest here, we all can't resist that little stud muffin of a dog on your signature line .
The site says "your dog is welcome to stay for only one night but there is a two day minimum charge", meaning if you board only one night on a weekend you'll have to pay for two. The grooming requirement does seem a bit odd, but my friend says the place is very clean and doesn't smell, so maybe they are just trying to keep up with that. I have no idea if these are common practices...but I do know that charging up the wazoo for things you don't even want or need is common practice here in Taxachusetts.
