Uh-oh, just as well you're DONE with that class -- sounds like it may have been a case of "the blind leading the blind" <:-O
Please don't take this the wrong way, but I hope you haven't bitten off more than you can chew with this particular dog <:-(
Maybe blind but the eyes are open now. No I don't take your comments wrongly at all. I understand what you are saying and maybe I'm giving out the wrong impression about my dog and myself. She just needs good solid guidance/training with lots of exercise. Me I need more education and am asking questions and seeking the right people. The dog is young and highly trainable ... me I'm not so young but hopefully trainable myself.
Glad you didn't take offense, Geoff <:-) I see these same issues with lots of unsuspecting first time Akita owners as well, so I don't mean anything personal by it...
"On the job training" for relatively inexperienced handlers can be full of pitfalls, even with a layed-back dog from low-drive stock, but add a more reactive animal from highly driven working lines & it could become a disaster in the making <:-(
Kudos for boning up on all the good advice here (!!!) and I just wanted to be sure you're not getting in over your head unawares, is all I'm saying...
I totally agree about the on the job fly by the seat of your pants training that many of the 'how much is that doggy in the window types' do. Those dogs either end up in Rescue or worse euthanized, I understand that and don't want to go there.
I think I am heading the boat in the right direction now.
Rob and Maureen will be a great help to you as you raise your puppy, don't hesitate to ask for help and guidance along the way.
Brax is a very sweet girl, she was not easy to send back.
No doubt, Yes totally agree Brax is an amazing animal. Sasha behaves like a mini Brax as per Rob that looks a lot like her Dad. Like I said earlier I have 2 young kids 3 & 5 year old boys and as well we took on 2 other kids babysitting another 5 year old boy and a 6 year old girl. So Sasha has her hands full with the boys as they are total 'boys' but she is awesome with them. Sure she had to be corrected in the beginning (as well as the boys) but now she just mellows with them and plays nice. An adult still supervises but for the most part Sasha has built up a lot of trust in this regard. Rob and Maureen had hand picked her from the litter because we do have kids and they didn't make a mistake.
I'd highly reccomend Rob and Maureen's business anytime as they are always available for consult and genuinely care about their customers and customers dogs after the sale of a dog.
