I use simple solutions on all our dog messes, pee, poo, vomit, blood etc. and it works well and is cheaper.

I wouldn't take my puppy to where everyone would want to touch him. He would get too hyper, start biting, and after they are done petting him, I would be the one stuck with a high prey drive puppy with knives for teeth.

I use white vinegar mixed with water.

Last night I took him outside at 11PM and he went, then at 6AM and he went, then at 9AM and he went. No accidents in between.

I had him tethered to me after that, and at about 10:40AM, after some playtime, I caught him, told him no and carried him outside. Problem is, I took the elevator and then walked for about 40 secs before I could get to the area where the dogs pee, so I'm sure he doesn't know what the hell is happening. He did pee, I told him good outside and praised a lot.

On the other hand, he had not gone potty since yesterday afternoon, and on this same trip he went. Poop was a little watery (Evidence #2 (BEWARE: disgusting) but after he went, he tried to go again, and this time only drops of brown water came out.

After we came back upstairs, I was about to put him in his crate when I noticed him smelling the floor and a little desperate. I knew he was about to go, but I didn't stop him since I'm still a little worried about the whole raw thing. So he squatted for about 1 min and 2 drops came out. He walked two steps, squatted again, and two more drops. Same thing a third time.

I MAY have seen a little drop of blood in one of the last poops (or puddles) but I'm not sure. This should go in feeding dogs, but I thought I could sneak it in here.

He looks active and healthy, not sick. He loves his food. I've only fed him Tyson's Cornish Game Hens so far. He's sleeping in his crate right now, and I will be taking him out more often to see if he has to go potty again. He looked like he's constipated, and he hasn't been going much since we started raw. I hope it's NOT the case for your Beagle (since there are wide variations within every breed), but I've heard from other experienced Beagle owners that some take up to a year to house-trained. Just do everything you're doing and stay consistent.

I've also seen studies where the Beagle was rated #7 in the "Low Trainability" cluster, while the GSD was rated #1 in the "Very High Trainability" cluster. So, if you're used to working with GSDs and their genius working-dog minds, you're going to need to ratchet down expectations for your hound.

Yeah, I read Beagles were difficult to train before I got him, but I wanted a medium sized dog since I live in an Apt. and couldn't possibly afford to feed a GS! lol. After much thought, I decided to go with a Beagle.

Also, I do hope that the house training problems you speak of (I've read similar stuff) has to do more with hunting lines than show lines like mine. This is obviously wishful thinking, but I know hunting lines are more hyper than show lines... and more loud.

I know I can't expect the same thing from my hound than I would expect of some of the dogs you guys have, but I will do my best to make sure he's as good as he can be. You never know... maybe a 5th place in 2009's Schutzhund? lol. Maybe not.

Richard, if your pup is having a hard time eliminating, try giving him some pumpkin, the kind you buy at the grocer in a can (not pumpkin pie filling!).

And if you noticed blood in his puddle, a trip to the vet would be in order. It could just be a broken capillary due to straining or might be a very dangerous condition, don't want to scare you in case it's not what you saw, but could be life-threatening. I thought Ed Frawley had an article on this site about it but can't find it. Try doing a search in the forum itself to get more info on this.

The first few weeks housetraining our beagle pup were very frustrating also, but she's almost 6 months now and only 1 accident in the last 2 months, pee only (her only #2 accident was when she had watery diarhea) I think being in an apartment is probably putting you at somewhat of a disadvantage in that it takes so long to get outside.

What worked for us was consistency and patience.
Outside immediately after a nap, eating, play. Once outside we stayed out there until she did something. If it didn't happen right away we ran her around the yard, threw the ball, etc. Exercise always seems to make things happen much quicker.

Just stick with a plan and keep him crated or tethered to you at all times and before you know it he'll be doing great.
