thanks all, she's back to pudding now and it's darker...I talked to the Vet today on the phone and she said to give her a couple more days and said it was probably the food change rather than bacterial/parasite infection.
I'm cooking some rice with shredded cooked carrots and a couple of small pieces of beef heart boiled.
we'll see how she does tomorrow
btw, the well water my parents have has been shocked and approved by the county...it's their drinking water, not just Brenna's
I did fast her on Monday...hopefully, tomorrow she'll be making more improvments...I'll keep everyone informed for the sake of the thread and for anyone that's interested at this point.
I very, very much appreciate everyone's input!!!

I would skip both the carrots and the beef heart for now.

Hi, I learned while showing bullmastiffs that a change of water can be devastating to the digestive system. I then carried jugs of water from home with me, I also used a similar bland diet until the stools firm except with the variation of large curd cottage cheese instead of yogurt then eased the dogs back into a regular diet over 3 or 4 days. I doubt the dog has a twisted intestine or blockage or it would be vomiting. Basically the small intestine is spasming and dumping food into the colon before digestion is completed the mass is still full of enzymes, stomach acid, liver bile etc. the small intestine is built to handle this the colon isn't. it becomes very irritated and dumps the whole mass, in addition gas pressure distend the colon and causes more pain. Incidentally liver bile is what darkens stools, ( humans too) if the stool doesn't remain in the tract long enough for the bile to do its job,( digest fats) the stool is light or yellow. I also would take in a stool sample to the vet if this doesn't start to clear up fairly quickly. Good Luck

I'm sorry Mike, I didn't realize that your dog's food was changed at your parent's house. I thought the same food was given.
That's usually the first thing I would ask if a dog had diarrhea, but for some reason I thought that there was no dietary change (other than the water and possible "extracurricular" yums).
Well, GOOD! I hope it's something as simple as that! If so, stick to bland food for awhile and all should be well. And yes, please keep us posted. Since I recently went through this, it's fresh in my mind how worrisome it can be!
Good luck!

she ate nearly all the rice, two small pieces of boiled beef heart, and most of the shredded carrots...however, it was mostly broth-probably a quart of liquid and maybe a cup of cooked rice altogether.
I'll continue to post...thanks again, everyone!!

Hi Mike,
Don't know if anyone has suggested this but charcoal really done the trick for my dog in the past! Also I've read (here I think) that canned pumpkin is good also.
Cheers

I didn't catch that both water and food were changed either. I have had that cause such severe symtoms that it mimics parvo including blood in the stools. Glad she is getting better.

Having been down the diarrhea road with my pup, I really feel for you both, Mike. I hope this resolves itself soon!
