I have just started switching my dogs to Innova dog food and I am also adding raw food to it per Dr. Pitcairn's advice in one of his latest books. I also supplement with Missing Link, which I think is great. The more I read about what most commercial dog foods are made from, the sicker I get. I would probably give my dogs 100% fresh diet if I had more time and more ambition. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
I use the Solid Gold "Seameal" and it is a great product. One of my dogs used to get hotspots every summer, since using the seameal he has not had any. It also aids in the absorption of whatever food they eat.
In the beginning I thought feeding raw would take to much time.. but after the first few weeks.. you fall into a pattern.. and it takes no time at all. I have been feeding raw for 3 plus years now.. and I have 6 dogs. On chicken day.. you just wing out some chicken backs in the yard and let them gnaw away... vegie night is only once or twice a week..and it takes about 15 minutes to grind up the vegies.. throw in some ground turkey... and wa la.. dinner. If I were to go back to a commercial food.. it would be Innova or better yet.. California Natural. These are the foods I recommend to my clients...If i can't talk them into raw.
Why do you like California Natural better than Innova (as far as kibble goes) I tried
Innova myself and had a terrible time with diarrhea with my dogs. I have not tried CN and wanted your opinion. Thanks

I've always heard folks caution against feeding raw bones to dogs, especially the long thin bone attached to chicken legs. Any truth to this? I've read of people feeding frozen chicken thighs and legs, bones and all, to their dogs. Any reason for freezing other than ease of storage? My 15 year old lab just passed away, and I'm waiting for my pup. I want to start his diet off right. I'd appreciate any thoughts.
Glad you brought this up. I am a little gun shy about feeding raw chicken bones to my dogs because of a bad experience. Now whether or not it was coincidence or not I am a little nervous to try them again. I do feed raw meat though and soup bones. I have never had a problems with those.
Karman..
I prefer the California Natural because it has less ingredients..
Ed.. you can't say people don't love thier animals enough cuz they don't feed raw.. for pete's sake.. we all only started doing this in the recent past.. People will get the word... It took me quite a bit of time to make up my mind about a raw diet. And I won't go back. I introduce people to raw feeding in every obedience class I teach.. it is years of listening to thier vets tell them not to feed raw bones...takes a bit to overcome all that BS.
I just wanted to say that my dogs also had very loose stools from the Innova dog Food & my parents dogs the same thing. I am now feeding a brand called Canidae and its working out very well!
