I say whatever you are comfortable with. For some this may need to be there normal language as they may make mistakes when under pressure of trial or stress. If dog has been trained in a particular language I would try to stick with it.
Look, this "training in an other language" idea is *DANGEROUS* if you're training a dog for protection.
Think about it - you're in danger and being attacked. You go to command your dog, and you're lucky if your voice will actually work at that time. Stress hormones don't make for a calm, cool mindset, and tends to dry out your mouth.
So you try to command Fido...but you're in such a jumbled mindset you can't even remember a foriegn language command.
And you become yet another statistic because your "protection" dog got the wrong training.
I've seen that happen several times. Unless you're a combat vet that knows how he functions under danger, please....train your commands in your native language. It could literally save you from bodily harm, or even death.
Don't play around with protection, it's not training for a game.
Gotcha, thanks. I was wondering because of all of these so-called PPDs for sale over the internet that are billed as being ready to go "out of the box."
The nice thing about a language other than English is that most people won't know it
Amber, dear friend, you are assuming the OP lives in the United States. !

Good point...I should have said "native language." How very un-PC of me!
Amber, either I missed your point entirely or you missed mine. ! It is highly possible I woke up on the stupid side of the bed this morning. That aside, I just had to correct you and Terry because, well, I've never been accused of being PC, not ever .
OK, I was ripping on all of us monolinguistic folks here in the US. Just about every person on this planet knows more than one language except us Americans . So, I wasn't being PC, I was being rude and obnoxious !

I am a New York Irishman who spent 20 years in the true (redneck) South, and married a Southern girl !!!!!! I now live in the sixth Borough...........what do I know about being PC
