I chose Solid Gold because of availability. Of course I read the ingredients and like what I was reading, but the thing that clinched it for me was that Solid Gold is available at two of my neighborhood grocery stores. None of the other high quality foods are that easily available to me. I'd have to specialty order them, and with my lifestyle, it's really important that I be able to run out and get the things I need when I need them.
I see that a few on this board feed raw and kibble. Has anyone had any problems with this? I have been feeding all raw for 6 months, I used to feed kibble mixed with raw ground meat before this. I switched to raw because my dogs teeth were getting brown stained. Since feeding chicken backs and wings they are real clean with out brushing. Does the kibble take the place of ground vegs.?
Once when I was thawing some Bil-jac I found part of a plastic tie in it. I only feed it as treats, and now I squish it in my hand before Auster gets it. I would just use raw meat for treats if she weren't eating kibble and didn't like the Bil-jac as much.

Jerry,
I used to supplement their kibble with yogurt, egg, apple, some ground meat occasionally. I never noticed any problems with it. Now I feed the BARF for dinner and the kibble at breaky, not together.
Lauren, yikes! I had a friend who was always finding weird things in food....one time she found an unidentified slimy thing in the can of tomato juice that we had all been making our bloody marys out of. Yuck!
I should have clarified that this was a very small square all plastic section that could have gone through Auster without a problem, but now I'm afraid of what I might find . It also makes me wonder how it got there .
